    • Eddie O’Donnell Monumental Works East U-21 Hurling Semi Final

De La Salle 2-16 Ballygunner 1-11

Our U-21 hurlers are through to the eastern final after a strong last quarter performance saw us defeat Ballygunner in a game which was a lot harder won than the final scoreline would suggest. There was little between the sides for most of the game though we did miss several chances but goals in the 53rd and 57th minutes secured our final place. We now await the winners of the Mount Sion v Erins Own/Ferrybank semi final which was postponed due to a bereavement in the Ferrybank club.

We had two wides before Ballygunner opened the scoring with two points in the second and third minutes. Man of the match Thomas Douglas opened our account in the fourth minute after good play from Dylan Foley. We were level a minute later when Mikey Costigan collected Jack Fagan’s long free and pointed. Shane Ryan put us ahead in the sixth minute after strong play from Jack Fagan and there was no further score until Ballygunner pointed twice in the 15th and 16th minutes. We were back in front when Thomas Douglas hit over two excellent points in the 18th and 19th minutes but Ballygunner equalised from a free in the 21st minute. Thomas Douglas pointed in the 24th minute after good work from Dylan Foley and Jack Fagan won the resultant puck out and placed Brian Cunningham for a fine point. Two frees in the 26th and 31st minutes for Ballygunner saw the sides go in level 0-7 each at the interval. The first thirteen minutes of the second half saw both sides sharing three points each with ours coming from a Shane Ryan free after a foul on Brian Cunningham and two excellent sideline cuts from Thomas Douglas. Cormac McCann marked his introduction with a fine point in the 14th minute and two minutes later Shane Ryan sent over an excellent point from the sideline. Ballygunner pointed in the 17th minute and Shane Ryan pointed a long range free in the 20th minute after Adam Doyle was fouled to leave us ahead 0-13 to 0-11. Three minutes later came the defining moment when Thomas Douglas and Jack Fagan combined for Cormac McCann to crash the sliotar first time to the roof of the net. Cormac added another fine point in the 25th minute and two minutes later Dylan Foley and Thomas Douglas set Eddie Meaney free and he finished low to the net. A foul on Adam Farrell saw Shane Ryan stretch our lead to but Ballygunner replied with a goal in the 32nd minute. The scoring ended with the returning Michael Roche pointing and the final whistle then sounded.

Scorers: Thomas Douglas 0-6 (0-2 sidelines), Cormac McCann 1-2, Shane Ryan 0-5 (0-3 frees), Eddie Meaney 1-0, Mikey Costigan, Brian Cunningham and Michael Roche 0-1 each.

Panel: Shaun O’Brien, Lee Wall, Jack McCarthy, Adam Doyle, Evan Whelan, Jack Fagan, Stephen Dalton, Brian Cunningham, Tom Moran, Adam Farrell (captain), Dylan Foley, Eddie Meaney, Shane Ryan, Mikey Costigan, Thomas Douglas, Cormac McCann, Gavin Coppinger, James Stone, Darragh Fitzpatrick, Michael Roche, Donal Carey, Jeff Cahill, Ryan Duke, Ian Condon, Sean Carton, Chris Kong, Sean Power, Kieran O’Donohoe, Jack O’Donohoe, Thomas Kenny, Conor Giles-Doran (injured).

    • East Intermediate Football Quarter Final

Newtown 1-7 De La Salle 0-9

Our intermediate footballers exited the championship when we were beaten by Newtown after a hard fought game in Carrickbeg last Tuesday. It was a game in which we dominated possession for the most part but poor shooting and decision making combined with gifting our more economical opponents a goal ensured our defeat. Credit to Newtown who played the last third of the game with fourteen men for coming up with the winning score right at the end.

Newtown opened the scoring in the second minute and Oran Keevers equalised in the sixth minute. James Grogan pointed in the eight minute but two Newtown points had them ahead by the 12th minute. Ian Cantwell levelled matters in the 14th minute but Newtown regained the lead three minutes later. Points from Dylan Foley and Stephen Walsh had us back in front by the 25th minute only for Newtown to restore parity. Colm Morris then pointed a free after he was fouled himself in the 28th minute to put us ahead 0-6 to 0-5 at the break. The second half began with Newtown goaling inside the first minute when we failed to control a high ball in the goalmouth and it was palmed to the net. Colm Morris replied with a point a minute later and Newtown pointed in the 14th minute to lead 1-6 to 0-7 midway through the half. Points from Eoin Madigan and Colm Morris in the 18th and 24th minutes made it all square again. We then managed to kick three wides before Newtown lifted the siege and won a free three minutes into injury time which they converted to claim a semi final place.

Scorers: Colm Morris (0-1 free) 0-3, Oran Keevers, James Grogan, Ian Cantwell, Dylan Foley Stephen Walsh and Eoin Madigan 0-1 each.

Panel: David Dennison, Christopher Sheehan, Colm Clancy (captain), Ryan Duke, Oran Keevers, Kenneth Byrne, Stephen Dalton, Thomas Kearney, Stephen Walsh, James Grogan, Colm Morris, John Mullane, Dylan Foley, Ian Cantwell, Paddy Kennedy, Eoin Madigan, David Kennedy, Mitchell Casey, Conan Watt, Jamie Sage, Keith Cooney, Eamonn Dalton.

    • East Junior Football Championship

Roanmore 4-10 De La Salle 0-1

Our understrength junior footballers proved no match for a strong Roanmore side in Walsh Park last Sundy. Even though we were missing half a dozen regulars through injury and holidays and hadn’t played since July it is fair to say we would have been up against it anyway but credit to the lads who were there who gave it their best. We now look forward to playing Kill in the junior ‘intermediate attached’ final

    Scorers: Joey Twomey 0-1.

Panel: Eamonn Dalton, Peter O’Hagan (vice-captain), Darragh Fitzpatrick, Jeff Cahill, Paul Quinlan, Alan Fitzgerald, James Coad, Eoin Casey, Adam Deegan, Joey Twomey, Keith Cooney, Evan Whelan, Conor Bohane, Barry Twomey, Graham Drennan, Shane Quinlan, Adam Hayes, Jack O’Donohoe.

    County Minor Champions

Congratulations & well done to our U-18 girls who won back to back minor A Championship titles with a 3-17 (26) to 2-11 (17) victory against Gailltir played at the WIT Carriganore Campus on Sat 29th Oct on a fine pitch in good weather conditions. This game was played at a very fast pace with plenty of skill and scores on show from first to final whistle, with play swinging from end to end throughout the entire game. We led by 2-7 (13) to 0-3 at half time. Our opponents came back at us in the second half narrowing the gap to 3 points at one stage but our girls showed their togetherness by pushing on again running out 9 point winners at the final whistle. Well done to both teams on a sporting tough encounter. After the game the Waterford Camogie County Board Chairperson Ita Murphy presented the Johnny Flynn Memorial Cup to our captain Courtney Healy. Courtney thanked her team mates for all their commitment and hard work shown throughout the year, Rose Madigan on first aid, Micko Casey physio for all his hard work with the squad injury wise, mentors Decky Drohan, Derek Healy, Joey Carton and to all our supporters for attending games throughout the year, very much appreciated. Courtney also thanked  our opponents Gailltir for a good game. This was a fine way to finish up the playing end of the season for us. This group of girls have have shown their togetherness down through the years winning an U-12 A title in 2010, U-14 A in 2012, U-16 A in 2014 & U-18 A in 2016. With only 4 of the panel overage for next years minor age group this is a fair achievement by this group of girls. The player of the final award went to the tremendously talented Abby Flynn scoring 2-2 from play.

Panel: Brianna O’Regan, Katie Ryan, Taylor Healy, Rachel Butler, Niamh Murphy, Colette Hogan, Megan O Connor, Courtney Healy (captain), Caoimhe Drohan 0-1, Chloe Dempsey, Beth Carton 0-12, Emma Fitzgerald, Katie O’Keeffe, Abby Flynn 2-2, Aisling Madigan 1-2, Subs: Lucy Hogan for Katie Ryan injury 25mins, Rachael Daniels for Katie O’Keeffe half time, Patricia Farrell, Becky Roche, Clara Boland, Jade Phelan, Toni Forristal.

    • Munster Club Junior Camogie Final

Commiserations to our intermediate camogie team who were beaten by the Clare intermediate champions Scariff/Ogonnelloe in Cashel last Saturday. Our young team gave it their all but the experience and skill of our opponents, who were All Ireland runners up in this competition a few years ago, proved too much on the day. Well done to all on getting this far in only our second year playing adult camogie.

    • John J. Murphy East Junior B Hurling Semi Final

De La Salle 0-19 Kilmacthomas 0-9

Our junior B hurlers qualified for the final with a good win over Kilmacthomas in Walsh Park last Sunday. Playing against the wind in the first half we held our opponents to a one point lead and in the second half we took over the game and got the scores needed to secure the victory.

We opened the scoring with a Keith Cooney point in the first minute but Kilmacthomas equalised immediately. Eamonn Fitzgerald restored our lead in the fourth minute after Shaun O’Brien was fouled and Barry Twomey added another a minute later. Three points by Kilmacthomas had them ahead by the ninth minute but Willie Power had us all square in the 13th minute. Points in the 14th and 15th minutes had Kilmacthomas ahead again but Willie Power replied in the 19th minute and Keith Cooney levelled matters in the 23rd minute. Kilmacthomas again hit the front with points in the 26th and 27th minutes before a foul on Luke Lawlor saw Eamonn Fitzgerald point in the 32nd minute to give our opponents a half time lead of 0-8 to 0-7. We began the second half with two frees from Eamonn Fitzgerald. Thomas Kenny pointed from distance in the fourth minute and two more frees from Eamonn Fitzgerald had us ahead 0-12 to 0-8 after eight minutes. The next score came in the 17th minute when the excellent Eamonn Fitzgerald pointed and he added three more from two frees and a sixty five to make it 0-16 to 0-8 with twenty four minutes played. Kilmacthomas got what proved to be their only second half score in the 26th minute before our goalkeeper Conor Bohane pointed a long range free. Late points from Willie Power and Luke Lawlor ended the scoring.

    • County Senior Hurling Quarter Final

De La Salle 0-24 Mount Sion 1-21 (after extra time)

Our senior hurlers and Mount Sion could not be seperated after eighty odd minutes of a hard fought and sporting encounter in Walsh Park last Sunday. Both sides will look back and think they could have won this game and equally could have lost it. Both teams had periods of dominance but failed to do enough to win the game so we must do it all over again.

The first nine minutes saw both sides share two points each with ours coming from Shane Ryan and David Greene. The excellent John Mullane and Bryan Phelan put us two ahead but Mount Sion were level by the 17th minute. Points from Shane McNulty and Eoin Madigan put us back in front. Mount Sion pointed in the 20th minute but further points from John Mullane and Jack Fagan had us ahead 0-8 to 0-5 after twenty two minutes. Mount Sion then took over and hit five consecutive points before a Bryan Phelan free saw us trail 0-10 to 0-9 at the interval. We resumed without the injured Eddie Meaney and Mount Sion made the early running adding two points in the first six minutes. A foul on John Mullane saw Shane Ryan get our first score in the tenth minute but Mount Sion replied immediately to lead 0-13 to 0-10. Points from Eddie Barrett and Shane Ryan (2) had us level within three minutes. Jake Dillon put us ahead in the 14th minute and three Shane Ryan frees after fouls on John Mullane, Jack Fagan and himself put us ahead 0-17 to 0-13 with ten minutes to go. Mount Sion reduced the arrears in the 22nd minute and were level five minutes later when they got the game’s only goal. Twice we went ahead with points from Thomas Kearney and Jack Fagan but both times Mount Sion equalised to take it to extra time with the score 0-19 to 1-16. We began extra time with a point from John Mullane and another from Shane Ryan after Adam Farrell was fouled. Mount Sion replied in the sixth minute. Adam Farrell pointed in the eight minute and Shane Ryan followed with a free after a foul on Jake Dillon to leave us ahead 0-23 to 1-17 at half time. Back came Mount Sion with three points in the first five minutes to level matters again. Eddie Barrett put us ahead in the seventh minute but Mount Sion equalised from a sixty five a minute later. Both sides had further chances to win before the final whistle sounded on what was probably the fairest result.

Scorers: Shane Ryan (0-8 frees) 0-9, John Mullane 0-3, Bryan Phelan (frees), Jack Fagan and Eddie Barrett 0-2 each,  David Greene, Shane McNulty, Eoin Madigan, Jake Dillon, Thomas Kearney and Adam Farrell 0-1 each.

Panel: Stevie Brenner, Oran Keevers, Ian Flynn (captain), Steven Daniels, Bryan Phelan, Kevin Moran, Eoin Madigan, Shane McNulty, Eddie Barrett, David Greene, Jake Dillon, Jack Fagan, John Mullane, Shane Ryan, Eddie Meaney, Adam Farrell, Thomas Kearney, Stephen Dalton, Conan Watt, Mikey Costigan, Paddy Kennedy, John Coady, Stephen Jacob, Brian Cunningham, Tom Moran, Lee Wall, Kenneth Byrne, Colm Morris, Gavin Coppinger.

    • County Minor Hurling Semi Final

De La Salle 5-10 Clonea 3-14

Our Minor Hurlers booked their place in this years county final with a hard fought victory over Clonea in an exciting semi final played in St. Mollerans on Thursday last.

With a minute on the clock a Thomas Douglas goal gave us the perfect start. In the fifth minute Thomas found the net again to stretch the lead to 5 points. Clonea responded with a goal of their own but Cormac McCann grabbed a goal in the twelfth minute to increase the lead. Clonea kept themselves in the game through some well taken points. Thomas Douglas finished the first half with a hat-trick when he goaled a minute before the break to leave us ahead 4-4 to 1-7 at half time. Two goals and a point within five minutes of the re-start gave Clonea a one point advantage. It was anyone’s game at this stage as both teams traded points. Before leaving the field due to a head injury, Dylan Finn found the net. This gave us a narrow lead which we held onto until the final whistle. A great game of hurling by two evenly matched teams. In the other semi final Ballygunner had a convincing win over St.Carthages and we now look forward to facing them in the county final in the coming weeks. Date and venue TBC.

Scorers: Thomas Douglas 3-4, Cormac McCann and Dylan Finn 1-1 each, Mickey Costigan 0-3, Chris Kong 0-1.

Panel: Donal Carey, Ryan Duke, Lee Wall, Ian Condon, Sean Carton, Mikey Costigan, Gavin Coppinger, Conor Dunphy, Conor Giles-Doran, Sean Power, Chris Kong, James Stone, Cormac McCann, Thomas Douglas, Dylan Finn, Adam Hayes, Lorcan Dwyer-Sheridan, Luke Walsh, Luke Flynn, Kevin Hennessy, Tom Crotty, Shaun O’Brien, Kieran O’Donohoe, Jack O’Donohoe, Ciaran Corrigan, James Quinlan, Peter Grogan.

    • John J. Murphy East Junior B Hurling Championship

De La Salle 1-13 Portlaw 0-11

Our junior hurlers qualified for the semi final with a hard fought victory over Portlaw in Gracedieu last Saturday. Having lost everal players from the panel this was a good win with the vital goal coming from goalkeeper turned forward Shaun O’Brien. We now await our semi final opponents.

Panel: Philip Burke, Kieran O’Donohoe, Thomas Kenny, Darren Casey, Darragh Fitzpatrick, Jeff Cahill, Alan Fitzgerald, Ronan O’Connor, Eoin Casey, Adam Hayes, Eamonn Fitzgerald (captain), Shaun O’Brien, Willie Power, Barry Twomey, Diarmuid Carey, Luke Lawlor, Evan Deegan, Cormac Carey.

    • County U-16 Division 1 Hurling Semi Final

Ballygunner 1-15 De La Salle 0-8

Our U-16 hurling team departed this year’s division one championship at the semi- final stage when well beaten by an excellent Ballygunner side at Ballygunner on Monday last. This was an excellent performance by the home side but a somewhat disappointing performance by De La Salle. The first half was a reasonably close affair with only a goal separating the sides at the break. The home side leading 1-7 to 0-7. De La Salle had two golden goal opportunities for goals in the first half and failed to convert either of them. This would prove to be costly in the overall contest. Ballygunner completely dominated matters after half time and ran out comfortable winners.

Panel: Liam Coad, Shane O’Neill, Lorcan Dwyer-Sheridan, Sean Connolly, Dean Casey, Colm Maher, Rueben O’Halloran, Kevin Hennessy, Eamonn Brosnan, Seaghan Walsh, Dan Casey, Darren Kenneally, Aidan Gannon, Dylan Finn, Joshua Campus, Sam Flynn, Jack Stickle, Evan Drohan, David Ryan, Lorcan Kerry, Nathan Finn.

    • County U-14 Division 2 Hurling Final

An Ghaeltacht 2-8 De La Salle 1-3

Our U-14s lost out to a strong An Ghaeltacht side in the Roinn 2 county final last Saturday.  Against the wind in the first half, the lads were 5 points down at half time.  We rallied well at the start of the second half and fought our way back to a 2 points deficit but our opponents’ scored their second goal of the match at the right time to stop any chance of a come back.  The De La Salle lads never gave up and tried hard to close the gap, but a solid display by An Ghaeltacht saw them go on to win a well deserved county title.  Well done to the lads for a great effort all through our busy Feile year, and even though we were disappointed, we’ll be back stronger next year.

    • Lotto

There was no winner of our Lotto jackpot last Monday night and it now stands at €14,750. The next draw takes place on Monday 10th October. Numbers drawn were 6, 16, 31, 32. There were five winners of €20 each.

    • 2015 County U-21 Hurling Championship Final

De La Salle 4-20 Dungarvan 4-16

Well done to our U-21 hurlers who are 2015 county champions after defeating Dungarvan in a thrilling final played in Carriganore last Tuesday night. This was a great win for our lads but full credit must go to both sets of players for producing an outstanding final that went down to the last few minutes. The lead changed hands several times and it was 3-16 each with four minutes of normal time left when we struck for 1-4 to secure victory. Dungarvan still didn’t give up and finished the game with a goal of their own.

There was great delight after the game when county board chairman Paddy Joe Ryan presented, for the first time, the Tony Mansfield Memorial Cup to our captain Shane McNulty. He also announced that Shane Ryan had been selected as the man of the match.

Congratulations to our panel of players, manager Bryan Phelan, selectors Ian Flynn, Stevie Brenner, Barry Murphy and Martin Doyle, Joe Kenny on first aid and the rest of the back room members. Commiserations also to an excellent Dungarvan team.

Dungarvan began with two points in the second and third minutes. We opened our account in the fifth minute when Shane Ryan converted after Eddie Meaney was fouled. Dungarvan pointed again a minute later but we were level by the ninth minute when Shane Ryan pointed from play and then from a free after a foul on Cormac McCann. Dungarvan pointed twice and Brian Cunningham replied with one. Dungarvan pointed again to give them a 0-6 to 0-4 lead by the 13th minute. We then hit four points in a row between the 18th and 22nd minutes through Eddie Meaney (2), Shane McNulty (free) and Shane Ryan (free). The rest of the half belonged to Dungarvan who scored 1-3 to lead 1-9 to 0-8 at the interval. Shane McNulty pointed a free in the first minute and we were level a minute later when Brian Cunningham and Dylan Foley combined for Craig Dowling, who had just been introduced at half time, to finish to the net. We took the lead in the fourth minute when Shane Ryan, now operating at full forward, sent over a free after a foul on Eddie Meaney. Back came Dungarvan with three consecutive points but we replied through Shane McNulty (’65) and a free from Shane Ryan after he was fouled himself to make it all square at 1-12 each after ten minutes. Dungarvan pointed in the 13th minute and goaled a minute later. A foul on Adam Farrell saw Shane Ryan point in the 15th minute but Dungarvan converted a free a minute later to lead 2-14 to 1-13. The excitement was increasing now as first Gavin Coppinger and Dylan Foley set up Eddie Meaney for a cracking goal and we followed with points from Eddie Meaney and Brian Cunningham. Then came a superb team goal as Stephen Dalton, Cormac McCann, Adam Farrell and Dylan Foley combined for Shane Ryan to crash the ball to the roof of the net and we led 3-15 to 2-14 with ten minutes left. Back came Dungarvan again and two minutes later it was 3-15 each. Shane Ryan put us back in front after he was fouled but Dungarvan equalised again with just over four minutes of normal time left. We struck for home when Mikey Costigan set up Shane Ryan for another excellent goal and when Cormac McCann intercepted a free, Dylan Foley pointed from half way. Three Shane Ryan frees after two fouls on himself and one on Cormac McCann stretched our lead to seven points before Dungarvan goaled from a free in the 33rd minute to end the scoring. The final whistle then sounded and cue much excitement and celebrations.

Scorers: Shane Ryan 2-11 (0-10 frees), Eddie Meaney 1-3, Shane McNulty 0-3 (0-2 frees, 0-1 ’65), Craig Dowling 1-0, Brian Cunningham 0-2, Dylan Foley 0-1 each.

Panel: Shaun O’Brien, Lee Wall, Jack McCarthy, Adam Doyle, Mikey Costigan, Shane McNulty, Stephen Dalton, Gavin Coppinger, Shane Ryan, Adam Farrell, Dylan Foley Eddie Meaney Brian Cunningham, Robert Daniels, Cormac McCann, Craig Dowling, James Stone, Darragh Fitzpatrick, Evan Whelan, Jeff Cahill, Ryan Duke, Adam Hayes, Micheál Kavanagh, Tom Moran.

    • County Senior Hurling Championship

De La Salle 2-14 Dungarvan 1-12

Our senior hurlers ended their group campaign with a victory over Dungarvan in St. Mollerans grounds last Sunday. With both sides already qualified, a few players were missing from both teams either through injury or being rested but that didn’t prevent the lads on the field engaging in what turned out to be a hard fought encounter. We now move on to face Mount Sion next Sunday in the quarter final.

We struggled with our shooting in the early stages and found ourselves trailing 0-4 to 0-0 after eleven minutes. Bryan Phelan opened our account in the 13th minute from a free after Eoin Madigan was fouled. Eddie Meaney added our second after quick thinking from Jake Dillon with a free in the 18th minute and Jake got our third a minute later when he was fouled himself. Dungarvan pointed in the 23rd minute and John Mullane replied in the 25th minute after good work by Stephen Jacob. We took the lead in the 28th minute when Jack Fagan goaled after good work by Stevie Brenner and Jake Dillon. Two late frees from Dungarvan levelled matters at the break 1-4 to 0-7.

The second half began with us missing a goal chance and from the puck out Dungarvan goaled. However, we were level within a minute when Eddie Meaney was brought down and Eoin Madigan goaled from the penalty. Three points from play from John Mullane, Eoin Madigan and Shane McNulty had us ahead 2-7 to 1-7 after eight minutes. Dungarvan pointed a free in the ninth minute but Bryan Phelan cancelled it out immediately. Back came Dungarvan with three points to make it all square again 2-8 to 1-11 after sixteen minutes. We took control of the game then and points from Jake Dillon (2), John Mullane (2) and Adam Farrell between the 18th and 29th minutes had us ahead 2-13 to 1-11. Dungarvan pointed a late free but Jake Dillon did likewise to end the scoring.

Scorers: John Mullane and Jake Dillon (frees) 0-4 each, Eoin Madigan 1-1 (1-0 penalty), Jack Fagan 1-0, Bryan Phelan 0-2 (frees),  Eddie Meaney, Shane McNulty and Adam Farrell 0-1 each.

Panel: Stevie Brenner, Oran Keevers, Shane McNulty, Steven Daniels, Bryan Phelan, Kevin Moran, Eoin Madigan, David Greene, Jake Dillon, Thomas Kearney, Jack Fagan, Adam Farrell, Stephen Jacob, John Mullane, Eddie Meaney, Conan Watt, Mikey Costigan, Paddy Kennedy, John Coady, Brian Cunningham, Kenneth Byrne, Colm Morris, Lee Wall, Gavin Coppinger, Kyle Sinnott, Eddie Barrett, Ian Flynn (captain), Tom Moran, Stephen Dalton, Shane Ryan.

    • Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs East Intermediate Hurling Quarter Final

Ballygunner 3-17  De La Salle 1-9

Our intermediate hurlers year came to an end when we were comprehensively beaten by Ballygunner in Walsh Park last Saturday. The loss of eight players from the team since the start of the campaign allied to two more being unavailable for this game proved too much of a handicap and on the day we were no match for a superior Ballygunner side.

Aided by a fifth minute penalty Ballygunner had 1-2 on the board after seven minutes. We opened our account in the ninth minute when, after good work by Jamie Sage, Cormac McCann finished low to the net. Ballygunner replied with a goal two minutes later and added a point before Cormac McCann pointed in the 17th minute. Ballygunner then pointed twice before Robert Daniels pointed in the 21st minute. Two more Ballygunner points followed before Colm Morris converted a free after Dylan Foley was fouled to see us trail 2-7 to 1-3 at half time. The second half began with Ballygunner adding three points in the first five minutes. The next ten minutes saw both sides scoring three points with ours coming from Colm Morris (free), James Stone and Conor Dunphy to make it 2-13 to 1-6. Ballygunner pointed twice more and Colm Morris pointed a free after a foul on Thomas Kearney. Ballygunner got their third goal in the 21st minute and we then lost a player to a red card. A foul on Thomas Kearney saw Colm Morris point gain and James Stone then got our final point before Ballygunner pointed twice to end the scoring

Scorers: Cormac McCann 1-1, Colm Morris 0-4 (frees), James Stone 0-2, Robert Daniels and Conor Dunphy 0-1 each.

Panel: Kyle Sinnott, Ryan Duke, Lee Wall, Adam Doyle, Jack McCarthy, Kenneth Byrne, Evan Whelan, Gavin Coppinger, Colm Morris, Dylan Foley, Thomas Kearney, James Stone, Cormac McCann, Robert Daniels, Jamie Sage, Conor Dunphy, Ray Murphy, Shaun O’Brien.

    • County Division 1 U-13 Hurling Final

Hard luck to our U-13 hurlers who were narrowly beaten by 2 points in the county final last Saturday. The game was played in Fraher Field on a wet windy day with difficult underfoot conditions. A poor first half saw us trail by 5 points but was followed by a determined second half display which saw us close the gap to one point at one stage but we had left ourselves too much to do. Congrats to Naomh Brid on their success.

Panel: Daire Treacy, Conor Cummins, Rishi Oben, Glen Buckley, Alex Hoban McGuire, Alex Keane, Conor O’Shea, Evan Hayes, Kieran O’Sullivan, Josh Kelly, Owen Oseni, Cormac Dawson, Jack Twomey, Darragh Crowe, Conor Keane, Kieran Kennedy, Jack Cox, Niall Dawson.

  • Notices 23.09.2016 Comments Off on 24/7 Cardiac care for Waterford

    The Peoples March

    Saturday 24th September at @14:00.

    The Glen

On behalf of the South Eastern Patient Advocacy Group.

The people of the South East were promised 24/7 cardiac care and no depletion of other services at University Hospital Waterford after the compilation of the Higgins Report in 2012.

Since then all we have seen is erosion after erosion of services at the hospital and no implementation of the promised 24/7 cardiac care. “We all pay the same taxes as people in Cork, Dublin, Galway and Limerick and should get the same level of healthcare as the people in all these counties” said Hilary O’Neill one of the founders of South East Patient Advocacy Group.

University Hospital Waterford was a good functioning hospital prior to the re-alignment with Cork University Hospital and now it has seen an increase of 161% in people on waiting lists with many vital services being out-sourced to other hospitals. “We have had enough” said John Doherty ( SEPAG) “The situation is unacceptable and getting worse by the day”.

The report compiled by Dr. Niall Herrity is fundamentally flawed and the needs of the people are not being considered adequately and fairly. The consultant cardiologists at UHW have warned that lives will be lost.

“The politicians have had their say, the consultants have had their say and now the people of the South East will have their say” warns Marina Butler ( SEPAG) .

We are appealing for the people of the entire region to come and stand with us on the 24th, these decisions affect every person in the region and we have had enough and we are now demanding what we were promised in 2012.

We are appealing everybody in the South-East region to join us on Saturday 24th September at 2.00 p.m. at The Glen in Waterford to show this government that we are fed up of being ignored. Our lives matter and we will not  rest until we have 24/7 cardiac care at UHW and all other services that were reduced are restored by the HSE

De La Salle 4-18 Ballyduff Upper 2-11

Our senior hurlers booked their place in the knockout stages of the championship with a good win over a battling Ballyduff Upper side in Fraher Field last Friday. This was a much improved display and with Jack Fagan and John Mullane in scoring form we led by eight points at half time. Second half goals from Eddie Barrett and Jack Fagan ensured our victory.

Bryan Phelan opened the scoring in the second minute from a long range free after Steven Daniels was fouled. Ballyduff Upper equalised before points from John Mullane, Bryan Phelan and Shane Ryan put us three ahead. We got our first goal in the 11th minute when Steven Daniels and Jack Fagan combined for John Mullane to finish to the net. Ballyduff Upper pointed twice and Jack Fagan replied with one. Ballyduff Upper pointed again and followed up with a goal to see us ahead 1-5 to 1-4 after sixteen minutes. Points from Shane Ryan and Bryan Phelan were cancelled out by two from Ballyduff Upper by the 23rd minute. Kevin Moran pointed after some excellent play by Oran Keevers and John Mullane added another. We got our second goal in the 26th minute when Jack Fagan controlled Eoin Madigan’s free and crashed the ball to the net. A foul on Jack Fagan saw Shane Ryan convert the free and John Mullane pointed again to make it 2-11 to 1-6 at half time.

John Mullane opened the second half scoring with a point in the third minute but Ballyduff Upper replied likewise in the sixth minute. David Greene and John Mullane then combined a minute later to set up Eddie Barrett who finished cleverly for our third goal. Back came Ballyduff Upper with three points in a row before Jake Dillon pointed for us. Ballyduff Upper pointed again and goaled from a free in the 18th minute to make it 3-13 to 2-11. However, that proved to be their last score as David Greene pointed in the 20th minute and four minutes later Jack Fagan again got on the end of an Eoin Madigan free and finished low to the net. • Condolences

Last Thursday saw the passing of two former club players, John (Sean) Ryan  and Tommy McLoughlin, to their eternal reward.

John (Sean) Ryan was a native of Clonmel who joined De La Salle when he came to work in the Foundry in the 1960s. He hurled for De La Salle winning a Sargent Cup medal in 1966. Later he served as a committee member and as a selector when De La Salle regained senior status by winning the county intermediate hurling championship in 1990 and when they won the Sargent Cup in 1991.

Tommy McLoughlin, the proprietor of The Tavern pub, played hurling and football for the club winning a county minor football medal in 1953. He represented Waterford in minor football in 1954 on a team which drew with Kerry.

We extend our sympathy to the Ryan and McLoughlin families. A minutes silence was observed before the senior hurling game on Friday night. Ar dheis Dé go raibh siad.

De La Salle 4-14 Tramore 1-21

Congratulations to our U-15 hurlers who were crowned Eastern Division 2 champions last Monday night in Walsh Park after a great win over Tramore. This was a thrilling final with both teams playing some great hurling producing 5 goals and 35 points over the course of the match. The match was even for most of the first half before a flurry of late points saw Tramore take a 5 point lead into the hal ftime break. The second half proved to be even more exciting and the lead was exchanged on several occasions during this half with Tramore leading by a single point deep in injury time. However, with virtually the last play of the game Eamonn Brosnan scrambled home the vital goal to ensure a two point win which was no more than the boys deserved after the commitment they all showed in the course of the final. The boys will now play St. Carthages in the County Final and this is provisionally arranged for Dungarvan on September 18th.

    • County Minor Hurling Championship

De La Salle 3-13 St. Carthages 1-11

Our minor hurlers came out on top in this battle of the unbeaten sides in Gracedieu last Wednesday when a late scoring burst of 1-2 saw us collect the points. This was a cracking game of hurling between two very good sides in which the star of the show was U-16 player Nathan Finn who scored 2-5 on his first start.

Playing against the wind, we got a great start when Dylan Finn collected a pass from Sean Power and goaled inside the first minute. A free from Mikey Costigan after a foul on Cormac McCann and a point from play by Dylan Finn saw us lead 1-2 to 0-0 after three minutes. St. Carthages then took over and by the midway point led 1-5 to 1-2. Thomas Douglas pointed in the 16th minute but St. Carthages replied with two in the 18th and 19th minutes. Thomas Douglas pointed a free in the 21st minute after Dylan Finn was fouled but again St. Carthages replied twice in the 23rd and 30th minutes to lead 1-9 to 1-4 at half time. The second half began with the St. Carthages goalkeeper saving from Cormac McCann and Mikey Costigan pointing the resultane sixty five. Dylan Finn added another in the seventh minute but we suffered a blow a minute later when a defensive error let St. Carthages in for their second goal. Two points from Dylan Finn and one from Cormac McCann made it 2-9 to 1-9 after twelve minutes. St. Carthages pointed in the 14th minute but a minute later Dylan Finn got his second goal after good work by Sean Power. Points from Dylan Finn and Mikey Costigan from a sixty five put us ahead 2-11 to 2-10 after twenty four minutes. St. Carthages equalised two minutes later but almost immediately we were back in front with a fine point from Adam Hayes. The game was decided in the 30th minute when a shot for a point from Thomas Douglas ended up in the net. Thomas added a point in injury time to close the scoring. On Sunday morning we received a walkover from Dungarvan in the final round and we now play Clonea in the semi final.

Scorers: Dylan Finn 2-5, Thomas Douglas 1-3 (0-1 free), Mikey Costigan 0-3 (0-1 free, 0-2 ’65s), Cormac McCann and Adam Hayes 0-1 each.
