The Peoples March
Saturday 24th September at @14:00.
The Glen
On behalf of the South Eastern Patient Advocacy Group.
The people of the South East were promised 24/7 cardiac care and no depletion of other services at University Hospital Waterford after the compilation of the Higgins Report in 2012.
Since then all we have seen is erosion after erosion of services at the hospital and no implementation of the promised 24/7 cardiac care. “We all pay the same taxes as people in Cork, Dublin, Galway and Limerick and should get the same level of healthcare as the people in all these counties” said Hilary O’Neill one of the founders of South East Patient Advocacy Group.
University Hospital Waterford was a good functioning hospital prior to the re-alignment with Cork University Hospital and now it has seen an increase of 161% in people on waiting lists with many vital services being out-sourced to other hospitals. “We have had enough” said John Doherty ( SEPAG) “The situation is unacceptable and getting worse by the day”.
The report compiled by Dr. Niall Herrity is fundamentally flawed and the needs of the people are not being considered adequately and fairly. The consultant cardiologists at UHW have warned that lives will be lost.
“The politicians have had their say, the consultants have had their say and now the people of the South East will have their say” warns Marina Butler ( SEPAG) .
We are appealing for the people of the entire region to come and stand with us on the 24th, these decisions affect every person in the region and we have had enough and we are now demanding what we were promised in 2012.
We are appealing everybody in the South-East region to join us on Saturday 24th September at 2.00 p.m. at The Glen in Waterford to show this government that we are fed up of being ignored. Our lives matter and we will not rest until we have 24/7 cardiac care at UHW and all other services that were reduced are restored by the HSE
