De La Salle 2-17 Lismore 2-9
Our senior hurler began this year’s championship with a hard earned victory over Lismore in Fraher Field last Friday. Played in possibly the windiest conditions we have ever experienced we had it in our favour in the first half and built up a 2-10 to 0-3 lead. The third quarter saw Lismore rally and they reduced the deficit to 2-11 to 2-7. Some astute tactical changes and some excellent performances saw us regain control and outscore our opponents 0-6 to 0-2 in the final quarter. On a night where we lined out without the injured Jake Dillon, Eoin Madigan and Stephen Daniels, kudos to teenagers Stephen Dalton and Shane Ryan who made their senior debuts and acquitted themselves very well.
We began well with points from the irrepresible John Mullane, Paudie Nevin and Shane Ryan giving us an early lead. Further points from Shane McNulty and John Mullane saw us lead 0-5 to 0-2 at the end of the first quarter. Two frees from Shane Ryan and a superb individual run and strike by Shane McNulty increased our lead by the twentieth minute. Dean Twomey then won the puckout and raced through before parting to John Mullane who crashed the ball to the roof of the net. Two more points followed from the outstanding Eddie Barrett and Kevin Moran and then in the 25th minute Johnny Keane found John Mullane who rounded the defender to score his second goal. Lismore replied with a point to leave the half time score 2-10 to 0-3.
The second half saw Lismore come out fighting and they racked up four points in the first five minutes. Paudie Nevin pointed in the ninth minute but then came what were two bad goals, from our point of view, inside three minutes and it was 2-11 to 2-7 with seventeen minutes to play. We looked in trouble but Shane Ryan replied with a pointed a free after Eddie Barrett was fouled in the 16th minute. Three minutes later Lismore hit the crossbar from a penalty with the rebound being sent over the bar. Two fouls on John Mullane saw Shane Ryan point the frees before Lismore had their last score in the 25th minute to leave it 2-14 to 2-9. The final minutes saw us on top with the excellent Adam Farrell drawing fouls which again Shane Ryan converted and an injury time point from David Greene ended the scoring.
Scorers: John Mullane 2-2, Shane Ryan 0-8 (frees), Paudie Nevin and Shane McNulty 0-2 each, Eddie Barrett, Kevin Moran and David Greene 0-1 each.

Clonea 1-18 De La Salle 2-8
Our junior team began their campaign with a seven point defeat by Clonea in Gracedieu last Thusday. We fielded a team with a mixture of youth and experience but after making a good start Clonea got on top of us and were worthy winners in the end.
Playing against the breeze points from Brian Cunningham, Stephen Jacob, Conor O’Toole and Eamonn Fitzgerald had us 0-4 to 0-1 after seven minutes. Clonea then scored 1-3 without reply by the fifteenth minute. It was 1-4 each in the 16th minute when Barry Twomey rose highest to send Conor O’Toole’s delivery into the net. Five unanswered points then followed from Clonea before Jerome Fahy pointed in the 28th minute. Clonea replied with a point to lead 1-10 to 1-5 at the interval. The third quarter saw no change with both sides scoring three points, ours coming from Jerome Fahy and Brian Cunningham (2). Clonea added two points to their lead but we were back with a chance when Barry Twomey was fouled and he got up to crash the sliotar to the net to make it 1-15 to 2-8. However, that was as close as we came as Clonea added three further points to their tally to secure the points.
Scorers: Barry Twomey 2-0 (1-0 free), Brian Cunningham 0-3 (0-1 free), Jerome Fahy 0-2, Stephen Jacob, Conor O’Toole (free) and Eamonn Fitzgerald 0-1 each.

U-11 A Hurling
De La Salle 0-4 Tramore 0-5
Our U-11 A team suffered their first defeat of City League to Tramore in Gracedieu on Thursday last, only going down to a last minute free. This was an extremely tough and hard fought game against an excellent Tramore side. Our backs and midfield fought hard and with a little more luck up front could have had one or two goals. The team continues to improve and are looking forward to the next game vs Passage away on May 23rd.

Panel: Daire Treacy, Cormac Dawson, Glen Buckley, Dylan Stickle, Alex Keane, Josh Duggan, Alex Hoba-McGuire, Josh Kelly, Kieran O’Sullivan, Robbie Devereux, Shane Keenan, Lee Cleary, Darragh Crowe, Conor O’Shea

We participated in the local Feile competition on Bank Holiday Monday 21st April in Ballygunner Gaa Club. 5 teams De La Salle, Gaill Tir, Lismore, Dungarvan and Portlaw entered on the day. De La Salle and Lismore played a preliminary round which we emerged victorious after a hard fought match. Next up was Portlaw in the semi final stage which we won. This meant we played Gaill Tir in the winners section final. Our girls came up against a very good Gaill Tir side in the final losing out but the girls never gave up till the final whistle. Dungarvan won against Portlaw in the shield section. Best of luck to Gaill Tir in the National Feile.
