East Intermediate Football Championship
De La Salle 2-5 Portlaw 0-11
A goal in injury time by Dylan Foley rescued a somewhat fortunate draw for our intermediate footballers and ensured qualification for the knock out stages after another hard fought game with Portlaw in Dunhill last Friday. It was an unusual game in that Portlaw dominated the first quarter of both halves with our lads getting on top in the latter periods and we were relieved to finish honours even in the end.
Portlaw started brightly and David Dennison had to make an early save before they opened up a three point lead by the sixteenth minute. Ian Cantwell got our first point in the 19th minute. We were in front five minutes later when Paddy Kennedy picked out Dylan Foley with a crossfield ball and Dylan shrugged off two opponents to crash the ball to the net. Portlaw equalised from a free in the 27th minute but just before half time we regained the lead when Paddy Kennedy converted a free after David Kennedy was fouled to make it 1-2 to 0-4 at the break. Portlaw took over again and six consecutive points saw them lead 0-10 to 1-2 midway through the half. Three points from Colm Morris, Donal Barron and Ian Cantwell between the 16th and 24th minutes reduced the margin to two points. Portlaw pointed a free in the 29th minute and a minute later we were narrowly out of luck with a goal chance. From the restart a move involving Oran Keevers, Stephen Walsh and Stephen Dalton put Dylan Foley through on goal and for the second time he made no mistake finishing to the roof of the net.
Scorers: Dylan Foley 2-0, Ian Cantwell 0-2, Paddy Kennedy (free), Colm Morris and Donal Barron 0-1 each.

Sargent Cup Senior Hurling League
De La Salle 0-21 Roanmore 1-11
Our senior hurlers put in an excellent second half display to come from behind to beat Roanmore in this senior league game played in Gracedieu last Tuesday. The highlight of the game from our point of view was the performance of John Mullane who rolled back the years to score six fine points from play and also win four frees which were converted by minor debutant Mikey Costigan.
Roanmore began well and scored six unanswered points in the first seven minutes. Mikey Costigan opened our account with a pointed free in the 12th minute after the excellent Eoin Madigan was fouled. Roanmore replied from a free before two fouls on John Mullane yielded two points from Mikey Costigan. Roanmore came back with two points to lead 0-9 to 0-3 after twenty minutes. John Mullane got his first point in the 21st minute. Roanmore replied again before John Mullane and Mikey Costigan after a foul on Eoin Madigan made it 0-10 to 0-6. Roanmore then goaled in the 25th minute after a short puck out went astray. Mikey Costigan pointed a free after John Mullane was fouled and points from Eoin Madigan and John Mullane (2) made it 1-10 to 0-10 at half time. We dominated the second half and two frees from Mikey Costigan and a point from John Mullane had us level within three minutes. Points from Eoin Madigan in the 9th minute, Eddie Meaney in the 13th and one from John Mullane had us ahead 0-16 to 1-10 midway through the half. Further points from Mikey Costigan (2), Matthew Barden (2) and Eddie Meaney stretched our lead before Roanmore ended the scoring from a free in the 30th minute.
Scorers: Mikey Costigan 0-9 (0-8 frees), John Mullane 0-6, Eoin Madigan, Eddie Meaney and Matthew Barden 0-2 each.
Panel: Stevie Brenner, Paddy Kennedy, Ian Flynn (captain, Stephen Dalton, Bryan Phelan Eoin Madigan, Tom Moran, Stephen Jacob, Matthew Barden, Mikey Costigan, Colm Morris, Kenneth Byrne, Dylan Foley, John Mullane, Eddie Meaney, Gavin Coppinger, Ryan Duke, Conan Watt, Kyle Sinnott.
