- Sargent Cup Senior Hurling League
Roanmore 2-21 De La Salle 0-22
Our understrength senior hurlers sponsored by John Kelly Opel went down to neighbours Roanmore in the Sargent Cup in a high scoring game in their Cleaboy pitch last Thusday. Fielding only seven senior players we were up against it but in the end the result probably came down to Roanmore taking two of their three goals chances whereas we failed to convert even one of our five.
In the early exchanges points from Paudie Nevin and Brian Cunningham saw the sides level at 0-2 each before Roanmore goaled in the sixth minute. Points from Thomas Kearney, Brian Cunningham (2) and Paudie Nevin saw us back level by the 11th minute at 0-6 to 1-3. The teams were level six times in all in the first half as further points from John Keane, Jack Kennedy (2) and Paudie Nevin made it 0-10 to 1-7 at half time.
The game was decided in the fifteen minutes after half time when there was sixteen scores in that period with Roanmore outscoring us 1-10 to 0-5 to open up a lead of 2-17 to 0-15. Our points coming from Brian Cunningham (2), Thomas Kearney (2) and Paudie Nevin. Our lads battled back in the final quarter with points from Brian Cunningham (4), Jack Kennedy, Matthew Barden and Paudie Nevin but our failure to profit from three clearcut goal chances meant we never got any closer than five points.
Scorers: Brian Cunningham 0-9 (0-7 frees), Paudie Nevin 0-5, Thomas Kearney and Jack Kennedy 0-3 each, John Keane and Matthew Barden 0-1 each.
Panel: Stevie Brenner, Lee Wall, Ian Flynn, Patrick Flynn, Michael Roche, Bryan Phelan, Adam O’Sullivan, John Keane, Paudie Nevin, Jack Kennedy, Thomas Kearney, David Greene, Dylan Foley, Kenneth Byrne, Brian Cunningham, Matthew Barden, John Coady, Kyle Sinnott.
