- Sargent Cup Senior Hurling League
Passage 1-18 De La Salle 2-13
Our senior hurlers sponsored by John Kelly Opel suffered their second defeat in the Sargent Cup when we went down to a good Passage side in Passage last Friday by two points. This was an entertaining game between two understrength sides which was only decided in the last few minutes when Passage scored two late points just after John Mullane, who had come on at half time, was unlucky to see his goal attempt come back off the post.
The early exchanges were even and it was 0-3 each after ten minutes with Adam Farrell (2) and Bryan Phelan getting our points. Paudie Nevin put us ahead but Passage goaled in the 13th minute. Points from Brian Cunningham and Adam Farrell levelled matters again by the 20th minute. Two further points from Adam Farrell and one from Bryan Phelan gave us a three point lead but Passage came back with three of their own to make it 0-9 to 1-6 at half time.
Passage pointed twice after half time before a fine run by Paudie Nevin set up a goal chance which Eddie Meaney duly converted in the fifth minute. Passage replied with three points before Adam Farrell pointed in the 11th minute to see us trail 1-11 to 1-10. Passage then scored three points in three minutes before a John Keane point reduced the margin to three midway through the half. We were level in the 17th minute when after good play by Jamie Sage, John Mullane finished brilliantly to the net. Two points from Adam Farrell and John Mullane had us two ahead by the 23rd minute but Passage were level within two minutes. Then came John’s unlucky strike and those two late Passage points.
Scorers: Adam Farrell 0-7 (0-4 frees), John Mullane 1-1, Eddie Meaney 1-0, Bryan Phelan 0-2 (frees), Paudie Nevin, Brian Cunningham and John Keane 0-1 each.

- East Junior Football Championship
Roanmore 2-13 De La Salle 0-6
Our understrength junior footballers were well beaten by championship favourites Roanmore in their Gracedieu venue last Saturday. Roanmore were the better side throughout but our lads battled hard until early second half injuries to Joey Twomey and Eoin Casey left us without fifteen fully fit players and they pulled away as the second half progressed. Mention must go to Conor Bohane who lined out even though he has only recently had a plaster removed from his hand.
It was tight enough early in the game and points from Joey Twomey (2) and Ben O’Dwyer saw us trail 0-4 to 0-3 after seventeen minutes. Roanmore dominated from there to the break adding six points to a single reply from Ben O’Dwyer to leave us trailing 0-10 to 0-4. We began the second half brightly and were on top for the first ten minutes but only succeeded in adding a point from Joey Twomey. We then lost Joey to injury and Roanmore responded with goals in the 12th and 15th minutes to decide the outcome. In the final quarter Roanmore added a further three points to a solitary reply from Barry Twomey.
Scorers: Joey Twomey 0-3 (frees), Ben O’Dwyer 0-2, Barry Twomey 0-1 (free).
Panel: Eamonn Dalton, Ryan Duke, David Sutton, David Farrell, Peter O’Hagan, Eoin Casey, Micheál Kavanagh, James Grogan, Adam Doyle, Joey Twomey, Eamonn Fitzgerald, Darren Casey, Conor Bohane, Barry Twomey, Ben O’Dwyer, Darragh Fitzpatrick.
- Peil na nÓg
Our U-14 footballers won the Eastern Division 2 final defeating a gallant Ferrybank side at Walsh Park on Saturday last on a score of 1-5 to 0-3. The weather conditions prevented a flowing game of football but a goal from Jack Stickle and points from Rueben O’Halloran, Neil Madigan and two from Darren Kenneally saw us lead 1-4 to 0-1 at half time. Another point shortly after half time from Jack Stickle set us on our way despite a spirited Ferrybank response.

Congratulations and well done to our club girls Courtney Healy, Rachel Butler, Becky Roche, Beth Carton, Brianna O’Regan and their team mates in the Presentation Secondary School who got to represent their country Ireland in the World Student Basketball Games in Limoges France played over 9 days. Ireland finished in 16th place overall a superb achievement for the school and girls considering that only 4 years ago were playing C grade in Irish schools basketball. Moving up the grades as they progressed through their schooling. Memories and friendships that will last forever.
