- East U-21 Football Semi Final
Rathgormack 4-14 De La Salle 0-5
Our U-21 footballers were comprehensively beaten by a very good Rathgormack side in the semi final of the eastern championship in Dunhill on St. Patricks Day. We went into this game as huge underdogs but given the individual ability of the players that lined out for us the margin of defeat was very disappointing. However it has to be said that with no preparation for the game we could not match the superior cohesion and team work of our opponents.
Rathgormack totally dominated early on and led 1-6 to 0-0 after twenty minutes. Points from Robert Daniels and Ethan Hurley in the 21st and 23rd minutes reduced the gap but any ideas of a comeback ended in the 25th minute when Rathgormack got their second goal to lead 2-6 to 0-2 at half time.
The second half was totally Rathgormack and they led 4-14 to 0-2 after twenty minutes. In fairness to our lads they kept trying and two points from Patrick Fitzgerald and one from Eddie Meaney ended the scoring
Scorers: Patrick Fitzgerald 0-2, Robert Daniels, Ethan Hurley and Eddie Meaney 0-1 each.
Panel: James Grogan, Conor Hogan, Adam Doyle, Michael Roche, Craig Dowling, Stephen Dalton, James Coad, Patrick Fitzgerald, Tom Moran, Dylan Foley, Shane McNulty, Eddie Meaney, David Hogan, Robert Daniels, Ethan Hurley, Lee Wall, Jeff Cahill, Ryan Duke, Ciaran Brady, Colm Stockdale.
- Phelan Cup Senior Football League
St. Saviours 1-8 De La Salle 1-7
Two points in injury time denied us at the least a deserved share of the spoils in this well contested and entertaining Phelan Cup game in Gracedieu last Saturday. St. Saviours opened the scoring with a goal inside fifty seconds. Points from Patrick Fitzgerald, Ian Cantwell and David Greene had us level by the 18th minute but by then we had lost Mitchell Casey to a possibly serious knee injury. St. Savious regained the lead but points from Patrick Flynn and Ian Cantwell had us ahead 0-5 to 1-1 at the break.
St. Saviours restored their lead with two points in the first two minutes but Paddy Kennedy goaled a minute later to put us ahead 1-5 to 1-3. A double exchange of points involving Ian Cantwell had us still two ahead after twenty two minutes before three points in the 25th, 31st and 33rd minutes secured the win for St. Saviours.
Best wishes to Mitchell Casey as we still await definite news on his injury.
Scorers: Ian Cantwell 0-4 (0-2 frees), Paddy Kennedy 1-0, Patrick Fitzgerald, David Greene and Patrick Flynn 0-1 each.
Panel: David Dennison, Martin Sheehan, Thomas Kearney, Stephen Dalton, Oran Keevers, Colm Clancy (captain), David Kennedy, Stephen Walsh, David Greene, Colm Morris, Patrick Fitzgerald, Donal Barron, Ian Cantwell, Mitchell Casey, Paddy Kennedy, Patrick Flynn, Craig Dowling, James Grogan, Eamonn Dalton, James Coad.
