County Senior Hurling Championship
De La Salle 0-15 Ballygunner 0-15
Our senior hurlers sponsored by John Kelly Opel began their campaign with a battling draw against county champions Ballygunner in Walsh Park last Saturday. Having trailed 0-8 to 0-2 after thirteen minutes, we had gone a point ahead early in the second half when we suffered the blow of losing a player. However, driven on by the outstanding Eoin Madigan and Jake Dillon we fought to the end and it took two superb saves by the Ballygunner keeper including a penalty to ensure the game ended honours even
We opened the scoring in the first minute with a Shane Ryan free after Adam Farrell was fouled. Ballygunner replied with two frees before Shane Ryan levelled matters in the fifth minute after Eoin Madigan was fouled. Ballygunner then took control and hit six points in eight minutes. We reduced the arrears with points in the 15th and 18th minutes from Jake Dillon and a Shane Ryan free after a foul on debutant Jack Fagan. A fine save by Stevie Brenner in the 20th minute was followed by four points from Shane Ryan (2) Bryan Phelan and John Mullane to make it 0-8 each after twenty six minute. Ballygunner pointed two frees and Shane Ryan replied with one to see us trail 0-10 to 0-9 at half time.
The second half began with both Jack Fagan and Paidi Nevin pointing to put us ahead. We were then reduced to fourteen men before Shane Ryan pointed a free in the fifth minute. Ballygunner then scored three in a row to regain the lead. A foul on Jack Fagan saw Shane Ryan equalise in the 13th minute. Ballygunner regained the lead a minute later and it was a further ten minutes before we levelled it with another Shane Ryan free after a foul on Eoin Madigan. Ballygunner went in front again in the 26th minute and Shane Ryan replied a minute later from play. A great run from Eddie Meaney in the 29th minute saw him brought down for a penalty but Shane Ryan’s shot was saved. Both sides had chances in additional time to win it but it ended all square.

Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs East Intermediate Hurling Championship
De La Salle 5-9 St. Mollerans 1-9
Our intermediate hurlers got the new campaign off to a winning start when they had four goals to spare over St. Mollerans in Walsh Park last Sunday. The first half was even enough as we led by two points at the interval but three second half goals ensured a comfortable victory.
St. Mollerans opened the scoring in the first minute with a point but a minute later we were ahead when Jamie Sage created the opportunity for Conan Watt to goal. Brian Cunningham pointed a free after a foul on Jamie Sage in the fourth minute. Two fouls on Adam O’Sullivan saw Brian convert both frees as St. Mollerans did likewise to make it 1-3 to 0-3 after ten minutes. St. Mollerans pointed again in the 11th minute but three minutes later a great run by Kenneth Byrne set up Matthew Barden to shoot our second goal. Brian Cunningham then added a point from a sixty five after the keeper had made a fine save from Matthew Barden. St. Mollerans pointed twice and then goaled in the 24th minute to leave the minimum between the sides. Brian Cunningham ended the first half scoring from a free to leave us ahead 2-5 to 1-6 at the interval.
We made a great start to the second half with a goal from Matthew Barden in the first minute. St. Mollerans replied with a point immediately. Adam O’Sullivan pointed in the sixth minute and there followed ten scoreless minutes before Matthew Barden pointed. An exchange of points involving Brian Cunningham made it 3-8 to 1-8 with ten minutes to go. The introduction of Robert Daniels after a lengthy injury absence had an immediate effect as he was fouled for a penalty which Brian Cunningham goaled. Jamie Sage pointed in the 24th minute and St. Mollerans replied a minute later. Robert Daniels ended the scoring in injury time with a superb individual goal.
Scorers: Brian Cunningham 1-6 (1-0 penalty, 0-4 frees, 0-1 ‘65), Matthew Barden 2-1, Conan Watt and Robert Daniels 1-0 each, Adam O’Sullivan and Jamie Sage 0-1 each.

John J. Murphy East Junior B Hurling Championship
Erins Own 1-19 De La Salle 2-6
Our junior hurlers were well beaten by Erins Own in this second round game in Poleberry last Friday. Missing six players from last week mainly through injuries and exams we played second fiddle from the start in what was overall a disappointing display.
Erins Own began strongly and had four points on the board in the first five minutes. Conor O’Toole opened our account but Erins Own replied with two. Gavin Coppinger added our second point to make it 0-6 to 0-2 after sixteen minutes. Erins Own pointed again but we thought we had a lifeline when Eamonn Fitzgerald goaled in the 22nd minute. However, Erins Own then took complete control adding 1-5 before the break to lead 1-12 to 1-2. The third quarter was even enough with both sides adding three points to their totals with ours coming from Barry Twomey and Mikey Costigan (2). Erins Own stretched their lead in the 16th minute but Barry Twomey replied with a goal in the 20th minute. Eamonn Fitzgerald added a point a minute later but Erins Own finished the stronger scoring the last three points.
Scorers: Mikey Costigan 0-4 (0-2 frees), Barry Twomey and Eamonn Fitzgerald 1-0 each, Conor O’Toole and Gavin Coppinger 0-1 each.
Panel: Conor Bohane, Martin Sheehan, Kevin Gahan, Ryan Duke, Alan Fitzgerald, Mikey Costigan, Evan Whelan, Conor O’Toole, Gavin Coppinger, Eoin Casey, Eamonn Fitzgerald (captain), Conor Dunphy, Adam Hayes, Barry Twomey, Ronan O’Connor, Keith Cushen, Kieran O’Donohoe, Jack O’Donohoe, Philip Burke, James Quinlan, Darren Casey, Keith Deasy.
- County U-16 Football Semi Final
De La Salle 3-10 An Gaeltacht 2-12
Our U-16 Footballers qualified for the county final after a very spirited display against an excellent An Gaeltacht side at a rainswept Gracedieu on Monday last. This was an excellent game of football between two very committed sides and the quality of the fare was enhanced by the very accomplished visitors.
An Gaeltacht opened brightly and lead by 3 points to nil after seven minutes. A goal by Lorcan Dwyer Sheridan levelled matters. They responded with a point which was equalised by Seaghan Walsh, An Gaeltacht dominated the remainder of the half and lead on a score of 1-7 to 1-3 at half time, our scores coming from Kevin Hennessy and Aidan Gannon.
Our visitors continued to set the pace in the second half and extended their lead to seven points before two further points from Hennessy and Gannon reduced the deficit to five. An Gaeltacht goaled to lead on a scoreline 0f 2-9 to 1-5 mid-way through the second half. Both sides exchanged two points each leaving An Gaeltacht leading by seven with eleven minutes remaining. At this juncture it looked like the visitors would prevail but our lads showed tremendous courage and ability to out- score our opponents 2-3 to 0-1 in the last ten minutes. The goals coming from Aidan Gannon and Neil Madigan, to get over the line with the minimum to spare.
This was an excellent advertisement for football at this grade and credit must go to both teams. We await the outcome of the other semi-final. The final is fixed for Saturday 21st at Walsh Park
