County Senior Hurling Championship
Fourmilewater 1-18 De La Salle 1-7
Our senior hurlers sponsored by John Kelly Opel will now play Lismore in a final attempt to avoid relegation to intermediate ranks after an abysmal display against Fourmilewater in Fraher Field last Saturday. It is fair to say that at the start of the championship neither Lismore or ourselves envisaged this scenario but we must now rediscover our confidence and battling qualities in two weeks time if we are to survive in senior ranks.
Playing with the wind we went behind in the first minute but Paudie Nevin equalised a minute later. Fourmilewater pointed twice before Jake Dillon reduced the arrears after a foul on Paudie Nevin. Fourmilewater pointed in the 13th minute but Jake Dillon replied in the 15th minute after John Mullane was fouled to make it 0-4 to 0-3. There was no further scoring until Fourmilewater pointed in the 29th minute but we then hit a purple patch in injury time when first Kevin Moran pointed and then we goaled when Jamie Sage rose highest to flick a centre from Kevin Moran to the net. We ended the half with Eddie Meaney pointing to lead 1-5 to 0-5 at the break.
Fourmilewater began the second half with two points before Jamie Sage opened our account in the 9th minute. However, Fourmilewater goaled a minute later and added three points. Jake Dillon pointed in the 15th minute and we trailed 1-10 to 1-7. We were not to score again though as Fourmilewater scored eight unanswered points to ease to victory.
Scorers: Jamie Sage 1-1, Jake Dillon 0-3 (0-2 frees), Paudie Nevin, Kevin Moran and Eddie Meaney 0-1 each.
Panel: Stevie Brenner, Tom Moran, Ian Flynn, Stephen Daniels, Eoin Madigan, Kevin Moran, Shane McNulty, Eddie Barrett, John Keane, Paudie Nevin (captain), Jack Kennedy, Jake Dillon, Jamie Sage, John Mullane, David Greene, Adam O’Sullivan, Eddie Meaney, Adam Farrell, Michael Roche, John Coady, Oran Keevers, Shane Ryan, Kenneth Byrne, Brian Cunningham, Bryan Phelan, Stephen Dalton, Conan Watt.

County U-15 Football Final
De La Salle 2-6 Ballinacourty 1-4
Well done to our U-15 footballers who won the inaugural county championship at this level with a surprise victory over an an excellent Ballinacourty side at Fraher Field on Saturday last. This was a hard fought contest between two committed sides. Ballinacourty opened brightly and were a goal up inside five minutes. We responded with a goal by Lorcan Dwyer-Sheridan and a point by Aidan Gannon. We stretched our lead with another Aidan Gannon point but Ballinacourty responded with two points of their own to level proceedings. However, an excellent goal by Eamonn Brosnan following good work by Seaghan Walsh and a further Gannon point saw us lead at half time on a score of 2-3 to 1-2. The second half was a a real battle with Ballinacourty getting an early point and really piling on the pressure. However our lads weathered the storm and an exchange of points between the excellent Lorcan Dwyer-Sheridan and Ballinacourty saw us maintain our three point advantage, before two late points by Eamonn Brosnan and Aidan Gannon saw us emerge victorious.
Sam Flynn became the first player to accept this trophy on behalf of the team.
Scorers Aidan Gannon 0-4, Lorcan Dwyer-Sheridan and Eamonn Brosnan 1-1 each.

John J. Murphy East Junior B Hurling Semi Final
Dunhill 3-14 De La Salle 1-18
Our junior hurlers were beaten by Dunhill in the semi final of the championship in Kill last Saturday. Earlier in the year we had beaten Dunhill but they had a stronger side on duty last Saturday and their ability to get goals, on a day when we were without our full back David Sutton, proved to be decisive in the end.
Dunhill made a great start with a goal in the third minute but we were level two minutes later when Conor Dunphy’s shot came back off the post and Cormac McCann was on hand to finish to the net. Dunhill regained the lead but points from Eamonn Fitzgerald and Cormac McCann put us ahead in the ninth minute. Dunhill replied with three points and a 14th minute goal saw them lead 2-4 to 1-2 at the end of the first quarter. Points from Mikey Costigan and Cormac McCann reduced the arrears to three but we were out of luck in the 20th minute when Conor Dunphy set up Eamonn Fitzgerald to double the ball to the net but it was ruled out for a square infringement. Points from Luke Lalor and Conor Dunphy were cancelled out by the 25th minute as were two points from Cormac McCann as we entered injury time where points from Mikey Costigan and Conor Dunphy saw us trail 2-8 to 1-10 at the interval.
Dunhill got the first score of the second half in the second minute when they pointed but Luke Lalor replied a minute later. However, the vital score came in the sixth minute when Dunhill got their third goal. Two points from Luke Lalor and one form Gavin Coppinger were all cancelled out and we trailed 3-12 to 1-14 midway through the half. Another double exchange of points involving Mikey Costigan and Niall O’Sullivan and a further two points from Mikey Costigan reduced the arrears to two points in injury time. We had one last chance when we were awarded a free in but Mikey Costigan’s effort was saved on the line and the final whistle sounded.
Scorers: Cormac McCann 1-4, Mikey Costigan 0-5 (0-4 frees), Luke Lalor 0-4, Conor Dunphy 0-2, Eamonn Fitzgerald, Gavin Coppinger and Niall O’Sullivan 0-1 each.
Panel: Conor Bohane, Ryan Duke, Willie Power, Mark Joy-Kinsella, Kieran O’Donohoe, Darragh Fitzpatrick (captain), Jeff Cahill, Christopher Sheehan, Gavin Coppinger, Eoin Casey, Eamonn Fitzgerald, Mikey Costigan, Cormac McCann, Luke Lalor, Conor Dunphy, Niall O’Sullivan, Tom Crotty, Micheál Kavanagh, Keith Deasy, Evan Deegan, Philip Burke, Jack O’Donohoe, James Quinlan, Barry Murphy.

County Minor Hurling Championship
Cois Brid 2-20 De La Salle 2-16
An away trip to Knockanore to play Cois Brid concluded the group phase of this year’s minor championship. With a semi final spot hanging in the balance we knew a win would guarantee us a place in the last four. Less than twenty seconds into the game Eddie Meaney found the net and got us off to the perfect start. Cois Brid responded immediately and levelled the scores after two minutes. We threated to develop a healthy lead at times during the first half. However, Cois Brid narrowed the gap on each occasion and we went in at the break with a three point lead. Early second half scores from Jeff Cahill, Cormac McCann and Mikey Costigan kept us narrowly ahead. Midway through the half Cois Brid found the net and began to take control of the game. Although we responded with a Thomas Douglas goal we ended up falling short. With other results going in our favour, we did secure a semi final where we play Cois Brid again. This game takes place on Wednesday 23rd September in Fraher Field, throw in 7.30pm.
Panel: Donal Carey, Conor Hogan, Lee Wall, Chris Kong, Craig Dowling, Michael Roche, Evan Whelan, Eddie Meaney, Conor Dunphy, Gavin Coppinger, Jeff Cahill, Luke Walsh, Cormac McCann, Thomas Douglas, Mikey Costigan, James Stone, Peter Grogan, Tom Crotty, Adam Hayes, David Hogan, Luke Flynn, Shaun O’Brien, Conor Giles-Doran.
