    • East U-14 Hurling Championship Final

De La Salle 4-3 Ballygunner 2-4

Well done to our U-14 hurlers who defeated a gallant Ballygunner side to capture the Eastern title in Walsh Park on Saturday last. The first half of this game was a tense affair with both sides spurning their scoring opportunities. Ballygunner opened the scoring with a point and we responded with a well taken goal. Ballygunner tagged on a point and at this juncture both sides missed a number of scoring opportunities. Both sides goaled before half time to leave the minimum between the sides at the break 2-0 to 1-2. There was a big improvement in the quality of the hurling in the second half as both sides contributed to an excellent game. Ballygunner quickly levelled and we responded with our third goal. Ballygunner levelled with a goal of their own and both sides exchanged points to leave the sides level 3- 1 to 2-4. At this juncture we began to exert more control on the game and went a point ahead and quickly followed that with our fourth goal. We tagged on another point to ensure victory.

Whereas the club were winning this trophy for the fourth year in a row it was the first ever hurling success for this group of players and there were scenes of delight afterwards when team captain Seaghan Walsh accepted the cup from Eastern board chairman Jim Murphy. Commisserations also to an excellent Ballygunner side. This completes an Eastern double for this hard working team.
Scorers: Aidan Gannon 1-3, Daniel Casey, Dylan Finn and Kevin Hennessy 1-0 each.

    • Phelan Cup County Senior Football League

St. Saviours 1-11 De La Salle 0-9

A poor last thirteen minutes of the first half in which we were outscored 1-5 to 0-0 decided this Phelan cup match in Ballybeg last Thursday night. This was another hard fought game but with St. Saviours being closer to full strength they were always that bit sharper throughout as we struggled for scores and their win was well deserved.

The first five minutes saw both teams point with ours coming from an Ian Cantwell free. St. Saviours pointed in the seventh and fifteenth minutes before Ian Cantwell pointed another free in the 17th minute. St. Saviours pointed a minute later and direct from the kickout they goaled. They added four further points to lead 1-8 to 0-2 at the interval.

The third quarter was even with Lee Hayes and Ian Cantwell exchanging points with our opponents to leave it 1-10 to 0-4 after seventeen minutes. We were seeing more of the ball in the second half and though we struggled to score from play, St. Saviours’ tendancy to concede frees saw Ian Cantwell point four in a row to make it 1-10 to 0-8 with four minutes left. St. Saviours steadied things with a point before Colm Clancy came upfield to end the scoring with a fine point.

Scorers: Ian Cantwell 0-7 (frees), Lee Hayes and Colm Clancy 0-1 each.
Panel: David Dennison, Martin Sheehan, Colm Clancy, Ronan O’Sullivan, David Greene, Thomas Kearney, David Kennedy, Ian Cantwell, Stephen Walsh, Paudie Nevin, Mitchell Casey, Kenneth Byrne, Patrick Flynn, Lee Hayes, Patrick Kennedy, Joey Twomey, Adam Deegan, James Grogan.
