County Minor Football Championship
Gaultier 1-8 De La Salle 0-2
Our minor footballers made a losing start to this year’s championship when going down to Gaultier in Gracedieu last Sunday morning. This was a poor game of football and whereas Gaultier were deserving winners, the final margin was harsh on our lads efforts as we were only a point in arrears with twelve minutes remaining. A Gaultier goal with eleven minutes to go allied to the enforced retirement of Luke Flynn and Peter Grogan ended whatever chance we had of salvaging something from this game.
There was no score in this game for the first twenty minutes before Ciaran Brady opened our account in the 21st minute. Points in the 24th and 26th minutes saw Gaultier lead 0-2 to 0-1 at half time. Gaultier stretched their lead in the 11th minute when a shot for goal was brilliantly deflected over the crossbar by Donal Carey. Ciaran Corrigan with a long range free made it 0-3 to 0-2 in the 13th minute. Gaultier pointed in the 18th minute and a minute later they got the clinching goal. Gaultier finished strongly and four points between the 20th and 26th minutes put a gloss on their win.
Scorers: Ciaran Brady and Ciaran Corrigan (free) 0-1 each.
Panel: Donal Carey, Sean O’Keeffe, Sean Carton, Colm Stockdale, Eoin McGrath-Butler, Conor Giles Doran, Ciaran Corrigan, Ryan Duke (captain), Peter Grogan, Ben Fitzgerald, Luke Flynn, Alex Kennedy, Jack O’Donohoe, Sean Power, Ciaran Brady, Stephen Power, Alex Costigan, Luke Stacey.

Well done to Derek McGrath, Kevin Moran, Jake Dillon, Shane McNulty, Eddie Barrett, Mark Cooney, Fergal O’Brien and the Waterford senior hurlers on their coming from behind to beat Tipperary in Thurles last Sunday night which sees them still top of the table after three rounds and a quarter final place secured.
