    • East Under-21 Football Championship Semi Final Replay

De La Salle 4-5 Roanmore 1-7

Our U-21 footballers qualified for the eastern final when the defeated a gallant Roanmore side in Walsh Park last Sunday evening scoring 2-1 in the final few minutes. The final margin belied the effort put in by Roanmore who played the second half with fourteen men after losing a player to a second yellow card just before the break. Both sides had earlier lost a player to a black card but thankfully players seemed to come to terms better with the new rules as the game progressed.
Roanmore were wind assisted in the first half and had two points on the board in as many minutes but in the third minute Robert Daniels got in for a goal. Roanmore equalised in the seventh minute but we regained the lead in the 14th minute with a free from Robert Daniels. Roanmore pointed twice to lead again but in the 24th minute Robert Daniels turned provider as he set up Jamie Roche for our second goal. Roanmore pointed again in the 28th minute and we led 2-1 to 0-6 at half time.
We began the second half with points by Robert Daniels and Jamie Roche and Roanmore replied with one to make it 2-3 to 0-7 after nine minutes. Roanmore were dominant at this stage and took the lead in the 15th minute with a goal. Robert Daniels equalised in the 19th minute after a foul on Adam Farrell. With two minutes to go and extra time looking a possibility again, Kevin Flynn and Dylan Foley combined for Adam Deegan to goal. With Roanmore now throwing caution to the wind in search of an equaliser Adam Farrell came forward to first score a goal and then a point to set us up for a clash with the unbackable favourites Rathgormack.
Scorers: Robert Daniels 1-3 (0-2 frees), Jamie Roche and Adam Farrell 1-1 each, Adam Deegan 1-0.
Panel: Jamie Coady, Adam Doyle, Patrick Flynn, Diarmuid Carey, Patrick Fitzgerald, Stephen Dalton, Conor Gannon, Adam Farrell, Adam Deegan, Tom Moran, Dylan Foley, Kevin Flynn, Jamie Roche, Robert Daniels, David Barry, Micheál Kavanagh, Evan Whelan, David Farrell.

Ardmore 0-10 De La Salle 0-9

A superb last minute save by the Ardmore goalkeeper denied our senior footballers a win in the first senior football game to be played in our Gracedieu grounds last Saturday night. This was a hard fought, close and sporting encounter played in weather conditions that were hard on both players and the match official throughout. However, it has to be said that with championship next weekend we were glad of the game.
Playing with the wind in the first we opened the scoring through Lee Hayes in the second minute. Ardmore replied with two points. Two points from Ian Cantwell, one after Conor O’Toole was fouled following a great run, were added to by Keith Cooney and Mitchell Casey to put us ahead 0-5 to 0-2 after fourteen minutes. However, we failed to score for the rest of the half and two frees in the 28th and 30th minutes reduced our lead to the minimum at the interval.
With the rain teeming down, Ardmore scored twice on the resumption to lead by a point after ten minutes. Our lads battled back and points by the excellent Kenneth Byrne and Mitchell Casey put us back in front after fourteen minutes. Ardmore came back and scored three points in the next four minutes. They pointed again in the 24th minute to lead 0-10 to 0-7. A foul on Christopher Sheehan saw Ian Cantwell point the free in the 27th minute and two minutes later Lee Hayes reduced the margin to the minimum. Then came that late save and with the resultant ’45 falling short against the elements, Ardmore held on for the win.
Scorers: Ian Cantwell (0-2 frees) 0-3, Lee Hayes 0-2, Keith Cooney, Mitchell Casey, Kenneth Byrne and Colm Morris 0-1 each.
Panel: David Dennison, Martin Sheehan, Colm Clancy, Conor O’Toole, Christopher Sheehan, Thomas Kearney, David Kennedy, Ian Cantwell, Jack Kennedy, Kenneth Byrne, Mitchell Casey, Colm Morris, Keith Cooney, Lee Hayes, Patrick Kennedy, Jack Gaule, Craig Nugent, Eamonn Dalton, Stephen Dalton, Patrick Flynn, Stephen Walsh.
