- East Under-21 Football Championship Semi Final
De La Salle 2-7 Roanmore 1-10 after extra time
Our understrength U-21 footballers staged a smash and grab at the end of normal time to take this game into extra time which failed to seperate two sporting sides last Monday night in Carriganore. With Jake Dillon, Adam O’Sullivan, Jamie Sage, Diarmuid Carey and Jack McCarthy all unavailable for this match we played second fiddle for most of the second half and it took two goals in the last three minutes to rescue us in normal time.
The first half was even enough and two frees from Robert Daniels saw us trail 0-3 to 0-2 at the end of the first quarter. Dylan Foley was unlucky to see his goal effort come back off the crossbar. A further exchange of points involving Jamie Roche saw Roanmore with a 0-4 to 0-3 half time lead.
Roanmore took control after the break and two early points were followed by a goal in the 10th minute to see them lead 1-6 to 0-3. There followed ten scoreless minutes during which we squandered chances and Roanmore missed a further goal chance. Roanmore stretched their lead in the 20th minute when Jamie Coady superbly deflected a goalbound shot over the bar and at this stage the game looked all over. However, Stephen Dalton came up the field to point for us in the 22nd minute and we were back in the game in the 27th minute when Adam Deegan and Patrick Flynn combined for Robert Daniels to goal. Two minutes later we were level when Shane McNulty intercepted a pass and set up Dylan Foley for our second goal. From the restart Roanmore had one more goal chance which they failed to take and we headed for extra time.
Roanmore took the lead twice in the first half of extra time but points by David Barry and Kevin Flynn saw it still level at the break. Roanmore again took the lead in the second period but Kevin Flynn levelled it up once more and with both sides failing to score in the last five minutes they will have to meet again.
Scorers: Robert Daniels 1-2 (0-2 frees), Dylan Foley 1-0, Kevin Flynn 0-2, Jamie Roche, Stephen Dalton and David Barry 0-1 each.
Panel: Jamie Coady, Adam Doyle, Shane McNulty, Michael Roche, James Coad, Stephen Dalton, Tom Moran, Adam Farrell, Adam Deegan, Kevin Flynn, Patrick Flynn, Jamie Walsh, Jamie Roche, Robert Daniels, Dylan Foley, James Grogan, David Barry.
