Nire 2-10 De La Salle 3-0

Our minor footballers made a losing start to this year’s championship when going down to a superior Nire side in foggy Gracedieu last Sunday morning. Nire were totally dominant early on and goals in the 8th and 20th minutes helped them to a 2-6 to 0-0 lead with twenty five minutes played. We opened our account in the 27th minute when Chris Kong set up Eddie Meaney for an excellent goal to leave us trailing 2-6 to 1-0 at half time. We improved in the second half without ever threatening a comeback but were unfortunate to lose David Hogan early in the half to a head injury, suffered when he came close to adding a second goal. Three points between the 10th and 16th minutes stretched Nire’s lead. In the 27th minute Evan Whelan created the chance for Eoin Treacy to goal and a minute later good work by Eddie Meaney saw Chris Kong finish to the net and the margin was down to six points. Nire ended the scoring in injury time with a point to ensure victory.

Scorers: Eddie Meaney, Eoin Treacy and Chris Kong 1-0 each.

Panel: Donal Carey, Sean Carton, Colm Stockdale, Ryan Duke, Gavin Coppinger, Lee Wall, Conor Hogan (captain), Eddie Meaney, Evan Whelan, David Hogan, Conor Giles Doran, Chris Kong, Peter Grogan, Jeff Cahill, Ben Fitzgerald, Ciaran Corrigan, Eoin Treacy, Luke Flynn.
