    • Annual General Meeting

The AGM took place last Friday in Gracedieu and it was no change at the top table as all the main officers were re-elected unopposed. The night also saw the launch of our new club development plan and county development officer Patricia Walsh was in attendance.
After the highs of winning three county titles last year no adult trophies came to the club this year though we did succeed in maintaining senior football status in our first year.
At under age it was another decent year in which we won the county U-16 hurling title after a cracking match with St. Carthages. We also won eastern titles in U-16, U-15 and U-14 hurling as well as eastern titles in U-14 and U-12 football. Our U-14 footballers were also successful in Peil na nOg having travelled to Leitrim as county runners-up they came home as Division 8 All-Ireland champions.
In his address as chairman Owen Dunphy spoke about the about the launch of the development plan and the continuing need to remain financially viable. He requested everyone to continue to support any fundraisers held as well as the Deise Draw, Lotto, the Gracedieu scheme and to pay their membership to ensure we can pay our way.
He paid tribute to the management of the senior hurling, senior football and intermediate hurling teams who have all stepped down and he complimented all the players who had represented Waterford at various levels. He thanked our club players and mentors for their efforts this year. He paid special tribute to our outgoing insurance officer James ‘Danno’ O’Shea who stepped down from the post and who had done a wonderful job for several years. He then thanked his fellow officers for their work and assistance during the year and wished everyone well for 2015.
The following officers were elected, President Br. Killian, Chairman: Owen Dunphy, Vice-Chairman Alan Duke, Secretary: Olivia Russell, Treasurer: Tom O’Leary, P.R.O: John Sheehan, Games Administration Committee Chairman: Owen Dunphy, Field Committee: Billy O’Neill, Players Representative: Thomas Kearney, County Board Delegate: Seamus Quirke, East Board Delegate Billy O‘Neill, Juvenile Chairman: Paudie Brosnan, Childrens Welfare Officer: Brendan Lawton, Irish Officer: Mick Kavanagh. The position of Insurance Officer is to be filled by the executive committee.

    • U-13 Allianz Co. Football Final

    St. Declan’s 1-4 Ballymacarbry 1-6

Our long awaited Allianz County Final was played at Walsh Park on Tuesday December 2nd. It was a perfect day for football and the pitch was in excellent condition. We were under pressure right from the off and goalkeeper Conor Cummins was in action early on bringing off a few fine saves. Conor O’Shea eventually opened the scoring in the eight minute with a well taken point from a free. Ballymacarbry followed up quickly with a point from play. A point from Kieran Kennedy and another free from Conor O’Shea put us two up by the fifteenth minute. A Ballymacarbry goal and a point just before the interval left us trailing by two, St. Declan’s 0-3 Ballymacarbry 1-2

We opened strongly at the start of the second half with Owen Oseni scoring a fine individual goal. Ballymacarbry evened up the game on five minutes with a point from play. There then followed a period of stalemate for about ten minutes. The western boys eventually added a point but this was quickly cancelled out by Kieran Kennedy’s second point. Once again the teams were level. However with time running out the opposition added two late points to break our hearts.

Overall this was a very good campaign for our players with team captain Alex Brown always leading by example, unfortunately he was replaced in this game due to injury. Defenders Evan Hayes, Luke Underwood Doyle and Seán Doocey worked very hard. Midfielder Ronan Power and forwards Jay Hearne, Victory Eddy-Atu and Kieran Kennedy were tireless throughout.

Congratulations to Ballymacarbry N. S. who were deserving winners on the day.
