    • U-14 Feile Football

Our U-14 footballers won their division of the national Feile Peil na nOg played at different venues in Connacht the weekend before last. We were hosted by St. Patricks Dromahair for the weekend and the hospitality and the support from our hosts was truly exceptional. We are indebted to them for their generosity and support and it was this support that really made the weekend.

We played our first game in Carrick on Shannon on Friday against Leitrim Gaels and emerged victorious on a score of 4-8 to 0-4. We then had a second game that evening at the same venue against St. Kevins from Louth. This was probably one of the toughest games in the competition but we managed to win on a score of 1-4 to 0-4. We then travelled to our host club to sample their exceptional hospitality.

    Saturday

On Saturday we played our host club and a couple of late goals put the gloss on a tough game on a score of 3-6 to 1-2. We were now qualified for the quarter finals of the cup competition. It was back to Carrick on Shannon to play Miltown Malbay of Clare. This was a very good game of football between two very committed sides. We eventually managed to convert the chances that came our way to qualify for the semi-final on a score of 1-5 to 0-4. It was back to Dromahair for more hospitality.

    Sunday

We had Tyrone opposition in the form of Rock St. Patricks in Claremorris as semi-final opponents. At this stage our lads were beginning to play really well and we beat very good quality opposition on a score of 3-4 to 1-3. We were now in the final in the Connacht GAA centre against St Bridgets of Leitrim.
The lads continued to their good form and a really good performance in the final saw us capture the cup on a score of 5-5 to 0-5. Dylan Finn accepted the trophy on behalf of the team from GAA President Liam O Neill. The lads faced the long journey home in good spirits. The team really appreciated the reception from the large De La Salle supporters on their return to Cleaboy.

    • County Minor Hurling

De La Salle 5-15 St. Carthages 3-8

Our minor hurlers got the defence of their county title off to a good start when they defeated a young St. Carthages side in Gracedieu last Wednesday. This was a a good display by our lads with all their total bar one point coming from play but the concession of two poor goals gives cause for concern. However, our attacking play was enjoyable to watch with team captain Brian Cunningham, Shane Ryan and Michael Roche especially prominent on the scoresheet.

The game began with an excellent goal by St. Carthages but goals by Brian Cunningham and Thomas Douglas helped us lead 2-2 to 1-2 at the end of the first quarter. A second goal from Brian Cunningham had us ahead 3-5 to 1-2 after twenty minutes. From there to the break St. Carthages took over and the lead was reduced to 3-6 to 2-5 by the short whistle. Two early points second half points reduced our lead to two but five points from Shane Ryan and a goal from Michael Roche helped us to lead 4-12 to 2-7 midway through the half. Our fifth goal came in the 17th minute when Eddie Meaney’s diagonal ball found Cormac McCann who sped away and finished to the net. Brian Cunningham(2), Michael Roche and Shane Ryan added points and we led 5-16 to 2-7 with five minutes to go. A late rally by St. Carthages yielded 1-1.

Scorers: Brian Cunningham 2-4, Shane Ryan 0-6 (0-1 free), Michael Roche 1-2, Thomas Douglas and Cormac McCann 1-0 each, Eddie Meaney, Jack Laffan, Evan Whelan and Conor Dalton 0-1 each.

    • Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs East Intermediate Hurling Championship

De La Salle 2-11 Ferrybank 0-17

An injury time free rescued a draw for Ferrybank in this game which they should have had the win secured. It was a game in which we struggled particularly in the first half in which two goals from Colm Morris against the run of play kept us in contention but credit to our lads for battling throughout. This result means that anything other than a win in our back match against St. Saviours will see us exit the championship.
Ferrybank were on top from the start and led 0-4 to 0-1 after ten minutes with our score coming from a Brian Cunningham free after Colm Morris was fouled. The next five minutes saw an improvement as we added points from Lee Hayes and Eddie Meaney. In between we had a penalty saved after a foul on Eddie Meaney. Ferrybank regained control and four unanswered points saw them lead 0-8 to 0-3 with ten minutes to the break. Colm Morris goaled in the 22nd minute but Ferrybank replied with a point. Colm Morris then got his second goal after good work by Jamie Sage to level matters but Ferrybank pointed again to lead 0-10 to 2-3 at the interval.

Colm Morris pointed to equalise three minutes in to the second half. A minute later Ferrybank should have goaled but Martin Sheehan got back to save on the goal line. Ferrybank then scored three consecutive points and also missed another goal chance when somehow one of their forwards managed to kick the sliotar off the upright from in front of the goal. A double exchange of points involving Brian Cunningham, after a foul on Lee Hayes, and Thomas Kearney saw us trail 0-15 to 2-6 midway through the half. With Eddie Meaney now dominating in midfield we scored four points, two from Eddie and two frees from Brian Cunningham to lead for the first time with five minutes to go. Ferrybank equalised immediately from a free but Brian Cunningham regained the lead after Lee Hayes was fouled before Ferrybank got their deserved equaliser
Scorers: Colm Morris 2-1, Brian Cunningham 0-5 (frees), Eddie Meaney 0-3, Lee Hayes and Thomas Kearney 0-1 each.
Panel: Kyle Sinnott, Martin Sheehan, David Sutton, Adam Doyle, Christopher Sheehan, Kenneth Byrne, Patrick Kennedy, Tom Moran, Lee Hayes, Eoin Casey, Thomas Kearney, Eddie Meaney, Brian Cunningham, Colm Morris, Jamie Sage, Michael Roche, Jack McCarthy, Evan Whelan, Jeff Cahill.
