    • Dinner Dance

    Our victory Dinner Dance was held in the Granville Hotel last Saturday night with an excellent attendance present. With chairman Owen Dunphy acting as MC it was a most enjoyable night. Guests on the night included county board chairman Tom Cunningham and Eastern Board Chairman Sean O’Regan who both spoke on the night. Br. Killian, Br. Tom and Br. Frank represented the De La Salle Order. The night began with the presentation of the the county minor hurling medals followed by the presentation of the county and eastern U-21 hurling medals. A presentation was then made to Adam Farrell, Shane Ryan and Jack McCarthy in recognition of they being part of Waterford’s All Ireland minor hurling success. After the meal the county and eastern medals were presented to our intermediate footballers. The various player of the year awards were then presented. Jack Kennedy won the senior hurler of the year and Colm Clancy was named intermediate footballer. Tom Moran was selected as intermediate hurler. The junior awards went to Eamonn Dalton for football and to Adam Doyle for hurling. Stephen Dalton was chosen as young footballer. Adam Farrell won the young hurler of the year and the much coveted Liam O’Donnell memorial trophy was presented to Adam by Eddie O’Donnell. Club chairman Owen Dunphy, then spoke and in his speech he announced that Alan Duke was selected as club person of the year. It was then on to celebrate and enjoy the night. We would like to extend our compliments and thanks to the management and staff of the Granville Hotel for the excellent meal they provided. Thanks also to the organisers, Mary Dillon and Owen Dunphy who worked tremendously hard over the past few weeks and made sure that the night was a success. The organising committee would like to thank all those who supported the night.

    • St. Mollerans Senior Hurling Tournament

    De La Salle 1-17 Clara 1-7

    Our senior hurlers began the year with an easy victory over a very understrength Kilkenny champions in Carrickbeg last Friday night. We were always in control and Dean Twomey’s goal from a 20 metre free in the 22nd minute helped us lead 1-11 to 0-3 at the interval. We continued to dominate but Clara battled on and they added a late 1-1 to improve their tally on the scoreboard.

    Scorers: Dean Twomey 1-5 (1-0 free), Shane McNulty 0-4 (frees), Shane Ryan 0-3 (0-2 frees), John Keane (free), Colm Morris, Eddie Barrett, Tom Moran and Paudie Nevin 0-1 each.

    • LAUNCH OF THE NEW DE LA SALLE GAA WEBSITE:

    The club are officially launching our new club website on Wednesday the 5th of March at 6pm in the John Kelly Opel Showrooms on the Cork Road.

    This is a very important date for our club and we would appreciate if players, parents, supporters and friends of De La Salle could attend this event.

    This website launch is also our first official engagement with our new sponsors to the De La Salle GAA Senior Hurling and Football teams and it is of the utmost importance that we all attend to show our commitment and appreciation for this new partnership.

    Light refreshments will be served and as always your support would be greatly appreciated.

    • Fitzgibbon Cup

    Congratulations to Jake Dillon and WIT on their success in the Fitzgibbon Cup in Belfast at the weekend. The weekend proved a personal triumph for Jake who after scoring the extra time winner in Friday’s semi final scored four excellent points from play in the final and was selected as the TG4 man of the match.

    • Waterford Minor Hurling Captain

    Congratulations also to Shane Ryan who has been announced as captain of the Waterford minor hurlers for 2014.

    U-8 & 10s will confirm before Weds via text due to the School Pre exams taking place in the Pres hall next week.

    Our U-12, 14, 16 & 18 girls train outdoors on Sat 8th March @ 2pm in Gracedieu.

    Newcomers always welcome to join in.

    All Ireland U-16 Schools final the Presentation Waterford v either the Leinster or Connacht champions to take place on Sat 15th March, venue tbc.

    Well done to Lismore Camogie Club on a fine display in there All Ireland Intermediate Club final last Sunday in Croke Park drawing with Ballyhale Shamrocks of Kilkenny 0-09 to 1-06. The replay takes place on Sunday 16th March.
