- County Minor Football Championship
Dungarvan 2-11 De La Salle 3-2
A battling performance by our minor footballers was not enough against a superior Dungarvan side in Cleaboy last Saturday afternoon. Our lads tried hard throughout the game but the point kicking ability of our opponents especially against the wind proved the deciding factor in the game.
Dungarvan began with the aid of the elements and pointed in the fourth and tenth minutes but in the 16th minute we took the lead when Jamie Roche set up Adam Doyle for our first goal. Dungarvan equalised a minute later but in the 22nd minute our best player Michael Roche started a move which involved Eddie Meaney and Adam Doyle and ended with Jamie Roche finishing low to the net. Dungarvan responded with two points in the 24th and 25th minutes and on the stroke of half time they were awarded a penalty, when one of their players was fouled, which was converted low into the corner of the net to see us trail 1-5 to 2-0 at the interval.
The second half began with Dungarvan pointing in the second minute and three minutes later they got in for their second goal. James Coad pointed a free after Jamie Roche was fouled in the seventh minute but Dungarvan responded with four unanswered points to lead 2-10 to 2-1 after eighteen minutes. James Coad pointed a free in the 22nd minute after a foul on James Stone and in the 26th minute Ryan Duke passed to U-15 player Sean Carton who having replaced latest injury victim Adam Doyle was desperately unlucky to see his goal attempt come back off the post but Eddie Meaney was on hand to finish to the net. With only five points between the sides Dungarvan responded and kicked the last point of the game in the 29th minute to claim the points.
Scorers: Adam Doyle, Jamie Roche and Eddie Meaney 1-0 each, James Coad (frees) 0-2 .
Panel: James Grogan, Conor Hogan, Shane Ryan, David Farrell, Craig Dowling, Michael Roche, Adam Doyle, Evan Whelan, James Coad, James Stone, Eddie Meaney, David Hogan, Dean Walsh, Jamie Roche, Ryan Duke, Sean Carton.
