Annual General Meeting
The AGM took place last Friday in Gracedieu and the main news to come out of it was the decision of Owen Dunphy to stand down as chairman after three years at the helm with former chairman Seamus Quirke returning to the hotseat. Otherwise it was no change for the rest of the top table.
The secretarys report showed that overall it was a disappointing year and with only the U-21 hurling to complete, no adult trophies have so far come to the club. Both our senior teams ended up in relegation play offs with our footballers losing their status after two years but fortunately our hurlers stayed up.
At under age we reached both county U-16 finals but were out of luck in the two. Our U-15 footballers won the inaugural county and eastern titles. Our U-12 hurlers shared the city league title with Ballygunner and our U-10 hurlers won the Ballyduff Upper tournament for the first time.
In his final address as chairman Owen Dunphy thanked all those who had helped him over the last three years and spoke about the continuing need to remain financially viable. He requested everyone to continue to support any fundraisers held as well as the Deise Draw, Lotto, the Gracedieu scheme and to pay their membership to ensure we can pay our way.
He thanked the management of the senior football and intermediate hurling teams who have stepped down. He complimented all the players who had represented Waterford at various levels and those club members who were involved as mentors with particular mention of all those involved in the National Hurling League win.
