    • County Junior Camogie Champions

De La Salle 3-12 Ferrybank 0-2

Pride of place this week goes to our junior camogie team who were crowned champions at the first time of asking last Saturday in Walsh Park. This was a brilliant result for the club given it was our first time to enter a team at ault level and that 12 of the team that were crowned minor champions a few weeks ago lined out in this game and that the actual winning team consisted of fourteen teenagers plus the latest Cork addition to the club the excellent Majella McCarthy. This was a superb team effort but once again special mention has to be made of Beth Carton who despite being double marked scored 3-8 of which 3-4 came from play. There was also excellent displays from the likes of Taylor Healy who played the sweeper role so intelligently and Brianna O’Regan who kept a clean sheet and whose long distance striking set up many attacks, but overall it was a win for a seriously committed bunch of fine young players

    •  East Junior Football Quarter Final

De La Salle 4-8 Naomh Pól 3-7

Our junior footballers qualified for the semi final of this championship with a hard earned victory over Naomh Pól in a close and entertaining game in Carriganore last Thursday. We were the better team in the first half but Naomh Pól dominated the second half before a late 1-1 won the game for us.

Naomh Pól got off to a great start when they goaled in the fourth minute but points from Barry Twomey, Adam O’Sullivan and Eoin Casey had us level by the ninth minute. We took the lead in the 10th minute when Joey Twomey set up Barry Twomey for a well taken goal and we got our second goal in the 16th minute when John Mullane and Eamonn Fitzgerald created the chance for Joey Twomey to crash the ball to the net. Naomh Pól got themselves back in the game with a point in the 18th minute and a goal two minutes later to make it 2-3 to 2-1. We got back on top with a superb goal from Adam Deegan in the 26th minute and two Adam O’Sullivan frees after fouls on himself stretched our lead but on the stroke of half time Naomh Pól got their third goal to leave it 3-5 to 3-1 at the break. Naomh Pól started the second half strongly and three points in the first nine minutes reduced the lead to the minimum. We got our first score of the half in the 11th minute when Joey Twomey pointed. Naomh Pól pointed in the 13th minute before Joey Twomey pointed again in the 17th minute. Two Naomh Pól points in the 20th and 25th minutes levelled the game at 3-7 each. The game was decided a minute later when Adam Deegan found minor debutant Ciaran Brady who kept his cool and rounded the keeper to finish to the empty net. Joey Twomey added the insurance point in the final minute.

We now play Ferrybank in the semi final on this Wednesday 28th October in Carriganore at 8pm.

Well done & congratulations to our Junior Girls on a fantastic win in their County Championship Final played in Walsh Park on Sat 24th October. Result DLS 3-12 Ferrybank 0-2. Played on a fine surface no space was afforded by both teams in the opening half. Playing against a slight breeze we led at half time 0-3 to 0-1. The half time break and team talk gave us time to regroup. From the opening whistle in the second half the girls were determined to push on, which they did showing the skills and committment they have shown throughout this campaign. When the final whistle was sounded it was befitting for this group of girls who have shown tremendous commitment, attitude and spirit towards training, matches & each other throughout the year. Many thanks to the girls, the mentors Decky Drohan, Derek Healy and Joey Carton. Thanks also to Rose Madigan on first aid, parents, family members, friends and supporters for their support throughout the year. This is a great achievement by the girls considering this is our first year entering an adult camogie team since our camogie club’s formation in Sept 2008 and entering U-12 & U-14 teams in C graded championships in 2009. Intermediate Camogie 2016 has a nice ring to it. Many thanks to Ferrybank Camogie Club for a good game and best wishes to them for the future.
