{"id":45,"date":"2014-02-03T10:51:32","date_gmt":"2014-02-03T10:51:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/delasallegaa.ie\/livenews\/?p=45"},"modified":"2014-02-03T10:51:32","modified_gmt":"2014-02-03T10:51:32","slug":"02-feb-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/delasallegaa.ie\/livenews\/index.php\/02-feb-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"02-FEB-2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>County Minor Football Championship<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0De La Salle 1-7 Nire 0-8<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our minor footballers got the 2014 season off to a good start with a win over\u00a0Nire in Ballymacarbry last Sunday morning\u00a0when a late rally secured the points\u00a0after a close fought encounter.\u00a0Down three points with two minutes left a superb individual goal by Eddie Meaney brought us level before two late points by Jack Maher and Adam Doyle saw us come out on top.\u00a0Nire might feel some what hard done by in that the woodwork deprived them of possible goals in both halves but credit to our lads for battling to the end.<\/p>\n<p>Having suffered a pre match blow with Jack McCarthy unable to line out, we began\u00a0sluggishly\u00a0with both teams\u00a0showing signs of rustiness. Nire pointed in the\u00a04th, 18th and 22nd minutes before Eddie Meaney opened our account in the 29th minute to see us trail 0-3 to 0-1 at the interval.\u00a0Both teams improved in the second half and three points from Eddie Meaney, James Coad and Jamie Roche had us ahead by the 11th minute but three minutes later it was all square. In what was now an entertaining game an exchange of points involving Jamie Roche saw it still level with ten minutes to go.\u00a0Nire now took control and kicked three points between the 22nd and 25th minutes to lead 0-8 to 0-5.\u00a0Then with two minutes to go came Eddie Meaney&#8217;s run and excellent finish to level matters again.\u00a0In the last minute of normal time Jack Maher, who had been forced to retire in the first half and had come back on, pointed to put us ahead and in injury time Adam Doyle came upfield to kick another and secure the win.<\/p>\n<p>Scorers: Eddie Meaney 1-2, Jamie Roche 0-2 (0-1 free), James Coad, Jack Maher and Adam Doyle 0-1 each.<br \/>\nPanel: Ciaran Brady,\u00a0Conor Hogan, Michael Roche, David Farrell, Craig Dowling, James Coad, Adam Doyle,\u00a0Evan Whelan, James Grogan, James Stone, Jack Maher, David Hogan, Aidan Lawless,\u00a0Eddie Meaney, Jamie Roche,\u00a0Colm Stockdale, Adam Hayes,\u00a0Ryan Duke,\u00a0Jack McCarthy.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\u00a0Championship Draws<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Last Monday night saw the draws for the senior championship groups take place at the county board meeting. Our hurlers will face Lismore, Abbeyside, Fourmilewater, Roanmore and Passage in their group.\u00a0The footballers will face St. Saviours, Stradbally, Gaultier, Nire and Balllinameela. At the same meeting it was decided to play the junior football &#8216;senior attached&#8217; on an all county basis but no information on groups is to hand. The senior football is due to begin the weekend of 13th April and the senior hurling two weeks later.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday night the eastern board made their draws and our intermediate hurlers are grouped with Portlaw, Erins Own, Tramore, St. Saviours and Ferrybank. The junior hurlers are paired with Ballygunner, Clones, Mount Sion, Passage and Roanmore\u00a0and will play each team home and away. In U-21 football we have been drawn against Roanmore in the semi final and\u00a0it is hoped to play this\u00a0game on Saturday 1st March. The U-21 hurling draw will take place later.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>National Football League<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Even though it was a disappointing result for the Waterford senior footballers we congratulate Oran Keevers who made his competitive debut today.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\u00a0Dinner Dance<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The club\u2019s victory Dinner Dance will take place on Saturday night 1st March in the Granville Hotel at 7.30pm. It promises to be a great occasion with county medals to be presented to our intermediate footballers, U-21 hurlers and minor hurlers. Eastern medals will also be presented to our intermediate footballers and U-21 hurlers. Tickets are priced at \u20ac40 and numbers are limited. Please order asap from either Owen Dunphy (086-3822893) or Mary Dillon (087-3666545).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Juvenile Awards Presentation<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The presentation of eastern medals to our U-15 and U-14 hurlers and to our U-14 and U-13 footballers will take place\u00a0next Sunday 9th February at 2pm in Gracedieu.
