With only two weeks to go to the first round of the club championship it obviously would have been beneficial to have those players available but such is the price of enjoying Waterford’s successful run to the league final. It was still a useful run out for the rest of the squad though.
We began well with Shane Ryan pointing two frees in the first two minutes after two fouls on Jack Fagan who was making his debut for the club. Dungarvan opened their account in the third minute and Shane Ryan replied a minute later with another free after Thomas Kearney was fouled. Dungarvan then got in for their first goal but Shane Ryan pointed again after he was fouled himself to leave it all square after seven minutes. Dungarvan pointed twice before good work by Brian Cunningham saw Shane Ryan point again. A Dungarvan point in the 12th minute was followed a minute later by a point from Jack Fagan after he collected Gavin Coppinger’s sideline cut. Two more Dungarvan points had them ahead 1-6 to 0-6 after sixteen minutes. Points from play by Shane Ryan and Paudie Nevin reduced the lead to the minimum before Dungarvan added three in a row to lead by four. A foul on John Mullane saw Shane Ryan reduce the arrears and a point from Adam Farrell saw us trail 1-9 to 0-10 at half time.
The second half began with Adam Farrell setting up John Mullane for a point in the first minute and a minute later it was John setting up Adam for a point to make it all square again. An exchange of points involving a Shane Ryan free made it 0-13 to 1-10 after eight minutes. The game was then won and lost in a ninety second spell when Dungarvan scored 1-2 to take a lead they never relinquished. In fairness to our lads they kept going and Jack Fagan set up John Mullane for a point before Adam Farrell reduced the margin to three in the 18th minute after a foul on Eoin Madigan. A further exchange of points involving Adam Farrell after a foul on Eddie Meaney made it 2-13 to 0-16 with seven minutes left. Two frees stretched Dungarvan’s lead before Adam Farrell got our final point in the 30th minute after a foul on Stephen Daniels. Dungarvan then put the icing on their cake with a third goal two minutes into injury time.
Scorers: Shane Ryan 0-8 (0-6 frees), Adam Farrell 0-5 (0-3 frees), John Mullane 0-2, Jack Fagan and Paudie Nevin 0-1 each.
Panel: Stevie Brenner, Oran Keevers, Ian Flynn, Lee Wall, Thomas Kearney, Eoin Madigan, Stephen Daniels, Conan Watt, Gavin Coppinger, Adam Farrell, John Mullane, Brian Cunningham, Jack Fagan, Paudie Nevin, Shane Ryan, Stephen Dalton, Eddie Meaney, Jack McCarthy, Matthew Barden, Kenneth Byrne, John Coady, Kyle Sinnott.

East Intermediate Football League

Kill 4-9 De La Salle 0-8
Our understrength intermediate footballers were well beaten by a very good Kill team in the league last Sunday in Gracedieu. In fairness to our lads the game itself was more competitive than the scoreline would suggest but the concession of three stupid goals in the first half removed any doubt about the final result.
We started poorly and after ten minutes we were 1-3 to 0-0 in arrears. We got ourselves into the game and reduced the gap with three points in five minutes from Colm Morris after a foul on Stephen Dalton, Lee Hayes and newcomer Colin McCarthy only to concede a second goal in the 17th minute. It got worse six minutes later when Kill got in for a third goal and then added a point in the 24th minute. Colm Morris pointed after another foul on Stephen Dalton before Kill ended the first half scoring to lead 3-5 to 0-4 at the break. Kill opened the second half scoring with a point before Colm Morris pointed twice to make it 3-6 to 0-6 after four minutes. Kill then pointed twice before Stephen Dalton pointed in the 15th minute to make it 3-8 to 0-7. Three minutes later Kill got in for a fine goal. James Grogan got our final point in the 19th minute from long range and Kill ended the scoring in the 24th minute with a point.
Scorers: Colm Morris 0-4 (0-2 frees), Lee Hayes, Colin McCarthy, Stephen Dalton and James Grogan 0-1 each.
Panel: David Dennison, Jeff Cahill, Christopher Sheehan, Ryan Duke, Conor O’Toole, Kenneth Byrne, Oran Keevers, Thomas Kearney, James Grogan, Colm Morris, Stephen Dalton, Eoin Casey, Conor Bohane, Lee Hayes, Colin McCarthy, Graham Drennan, Eamonn Dalton, Martin Sheehan.

County U-16 Football

Our U-16 footballers have qualified for the County semi-final. They have finished second in the group to Ballinacourty, the overwhelming favourites for the competition. The team picked up full points against An Gaeltacht, Tramore and Gaultier. The only blemish being against Ballinacourty. The last match played was against an ever improving Tramore side at Gracedieu on Monday last.
De La Salle 4-8 Tramore 1-14
This is as the scoreline suggests was a very good game of football played in a sporting manner by two very committed sides. A large part of the credit must go to an ever improving Tramore who played a very attractive brand of football. We started very well with two early goals from Aidan Gannon and Niall O’Keefe. Tramore steadied the ship with some fine points. The sides turning at half time on a scoreline of 2-4 to 0-7.
The second half provided some more entertainment with both sides committed to winning the game. We added another goal by Aidan Gannon but Tramore continued to kick some fine points and added a goal of their own. The game was finally put to bed with a fine goal by the impressive Niall O’Keefe.
We now play An Gaeltacht in the semi-Final in Gracedieu on Sunday May 8th at 11am.
Scorers: Aidan Gannon 2-4, Niall O’Keefe 2-1, Kevin Hennessy 0-2, Sam Flynn 0-1.
Panel: Dan Casey, Ethan O’Halloran, Sean Connolly, Conor Signorelli, Shane O’Neill, Dylan Finn, Dean Casey, Sam Flynn, Kevin Hennessy, Liam Coad, Aidan Gannon, Neil Madigan, Niall O’Keefe, Eamonn Brosnan, Lorcan Dwyer-Sheridan, Seaghan Walsh, Colm Maher, Jack Stickle, Josh Campus, Harry Lawton, Darren Kenneally, Lorcan Kerry, Nathan Finn, Rueben O’Halloran.

Munster Minor Hurling Championship Play Off

Well done to Conor Giles-Doran, Thomas Douglas, Lee Wall, Mikey Costigan, Gavin Coppinger and the Waterford minor hurlers who produced a fine performance to beat Tipperary in Walsh Park last Saturday in the Munster championship to qualify for a semi final place.

National Hurling League Final

Best wishes to Derek McGrath, Kevin Moran, Jake Dillon, Shane McNulty, Eddie Barrett, Mark Cooney, Fergal O’Brien and the Waterford senior hurlers who next Sunday will attempt to become the first Waterford team to win back to back league titles when they take on Clare in Thurles.

De La Salle Camogie Club

Training:
U-8s will play a challenge game on Weds 27th v Ferrybank @ 6.30pm in Gracedieu.
U-10 & U-12 on Weds 27th April @ 6.30pm in Gracedieu.
U-14s on Saturday 30th April @ 12noon in Gracedieu.
U-16, U-18 & Intermediate on Weds 27th April @ 7.15pm in Gracedieu.
Newcomers are always more than welcome to participate.
Registration:
This is now due for season 2016.
