This was a great win for our lads given that apart from the already absent injury casualties Eddie Meaney and Robert Daniels we also had to line out without three of the team that had won the semi final in Jack McCarthy, Adam Doyle and Dylan Foley, but the lads that came in played their part in seeing us through. Mention also to Stephen Dalton who had an another excellent game despite having dislocated a couple of fingers playing for the county U-21 footballers a few days earlier. Great credit must go to both sets of players for producing the game they did given the time of year and the recent weather conditions. It was a game that the result was in doubt up to the finish with Mount Sion having slightly the better of the first half and our lads getting their noses in front in the second half only for Mount Sion to come with a late goal which made us mighty relieved to hear the final whistle. There was great delight after the game when board chairman Michael Wadding and sponsor Eddie O’Donnell presented both the Liam O’Donnell Memorial Cup and the man of the match award to our outstanding captain Shane McNulty.<br \/>\nCongratulations to our lads, manager Bryan Phelan, selectors Ian Flynn, Stevie Brenner, Barry Murphy and Martin Doyle, Joe Kenny on first aid and the rest of the back room members. Commiserations also to a gallant Mount Sion team.<br \/>\nWe opened the scoring in the first minute when Shane Ryan converted after Adam Farrell was fouled. Mount Sion replied with points in the second and seventh minutes before Mikey Costigan set up Adam Farrell to equalise in the 13th minute. Mount Sion regained the lead in the 18th minute but Shane Ryan levelled it again in the 20th minute after he was fouled himself. Mount Sion then took over and pointed in the 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 27th minutes to lead 0-7 to 0-3. It was at this stage that Bryan Phelan made a vital switch moving Shane McNulty to midfield and Tom Moran to centre back with both players going on to dominate their new positions. Two points from both play and a free by Shane Ryan and one from play by Shane McNulty after good work by Mikey Costigan between the 28th and 31st minutes saw us trail 0-7 to 0-6 at the interval. The second half began with a Mount Sion point in the first minute. Brian Cunningham replied a minute later and it was all square after four minutes when Shane Ryan sent over a free after a foul on James Stone. Mount Sion regained the lead in the eight minute as the tempo and the excitement increased but Adam O’Sullivan equalised almost immediately. Again Mount Sion went ahead in the 10th minute but points from Shane McNulty from a play and a free had us ahead with Mount Sion replying to make it 0-11 each by the 13th minute. A foul on Adam Farrell saw Shane Ryan put us ahead in the 15th minute. Then came a decisive passage of play when Shane McNulty pointed a long range free in the 17th minute after Craig Dowling was fouled before catching the resultant puckout and racing through to score a point which put us 0-14 to 0-11 ahead. Mount Sion reduced the arrears in the 20th minute only for Shane McNulty to point again in the 23rd minute. Mount Sion replied in the 24th minute but two frees from Shane Ryan after fouls on Jeff Cahill and Adam Farrell had us ahead 0-17 to 0-13 with twenty eight minutes played. A Mount Sion free in the 30th minute was replied to a minute later by Shane Ryan before Mount Sion struck for the game’s only goal in the 32nd minute. A further two additional minutes saw us hold out for the win.<br \/>\nThe county final was fixed for Sunday morning but it was no secret that having had to replace a few more players through injury during the eastern final we were struggling to find fifteen fit players for the game. We requested a postponement and were relieved when the bad weather made such a decision inevitable.<br \/>\nScorers: Shane Ryan 0-9 (0-8 frees), Shane McNulty 0-6 (0-2 frees), Adam Farrell, Brian Cunningham and Adam O’Sullivan 0-1 each.<br \/>\nPanel: Shaun O’Brien, Evan Whelan, Lee Wall, Craig Dowling, Darragh Fitzpatrick, Shane McNulty, Stephen Dalton, Tom Moran, Gavin Coppinger, Adam O’Sullivan, Adam Farrell, Mikey Costigan, James Stone, Shane Ryan, Brian Cunningham, Michael Roche, Jeff Cahill, Cormac McCann, Robert Daniels, Eddie Meaney Jack McCarthy, Adam Doyle, Dylan Foley.<br \/>\nLotto<br \/>\nThere was no winner of our Lotto jackpot last Tuesday night and it now stands at \u20ac10,000.
