This game was a credit to both sets of players who battled bravely in tough conditions. Even though eighteen of the thirty scores came from placed balls the game got very exciting near the closing stages and throughout extra time with both teams having chances to wn the game but a draw was definitely a fair result on the night. The teams will go again probably the weekend of the 29th November. The first half was tame enough with the sides level on four occasions. When Ballygunner opend up a four point lead in the third quarter we looked in trouble but led by the outstanding Shane McNulty, Tom Moran and Shane Ryan we drew level with four minutes to go and from there to the end it was nip and tuck.

Ballygunner opened the scoring in the fifth minute but we replied with points from Brian Cunningham and Adam O’Sullivan in the seventh and ninth minutes. Ballygunner then hit four points in a row between the tenth and nineteenth minutes to lead 0-5 to 0-2. Having earlier hit some poor wides we found our touch between the 20th and 25th minutes with points from Adam Farrell (2) and Brian Cunningham to level matters. Ballygunner regained the lead in the first minute of injury time but we replied immediately with another Brian Cunnigham free to make it 0-6 each at half time. The third quarter belonged to Ballygunner as they shot four points and we hit another four wides. We fought back and five unanswered points from Shane Ryan between the 17th and 27th minutes had us ahead by one. Back came Ballygunner and points in the 31st and 33rd minutes put them in front again before Shane Ryan equalised in the 34th minute to send us to extra time. Ballygunner pointed two minutes into extra time but we responded with points from Mikey Costigan and James Stone in the fourth and fifth minutes. Ballygunner pointed in the eight minute to leave it 0-14 each at the break. In the first minute of the second period Ballygunner regained the lead but Shane Ryan equalised in the sixth minute and neither side could then get in for the decisive score.

Scorers: Shane Ryan 0-7 (0-5 frees), Brian Cunningham 0-3 (frees), Adam Farrell 0-2, Adam O’Sullivan, Mikey Costigan and James Stone 0-1 each.

Panel: Shaun O’Brien, Lee Wall, Jack McCarthy, Adam Doyle, Craig Dowling, Shane McNulty, Stephen Dalton, Tom Moran, Gavin Coppinger, Brian Cunningham, Adam Farrell, Dylan Foley, Mikey Costigan, Adam O’Sullivan, Shane Ryan, James Stone, Evan Whelan, Darragh Fitzpatrick, Jeff Cahill, Micheál Kavanagh, Adam Hayes, Michael Roche, Robert Daniels, Eddie Meaney.

Club Championships

It was a good weekend for a couple of our lads with Mark Cooney being involved with the Cuala side that defeated Clara in the Leinster club senior hurling semi final and Dermot Dooley likewise with the Fenor side that are through to the Munster club junior hurling final.

Dean Ryan Final

Commiserations to Derek McGrath, Paudie Nevin and the De La Salle college side who lost the Dean Ryan final to a superior Ard Scoil Ris team last week.

Annual Mass For Deceased Members

The annual Mass for deceased members will take place in Gracedieu on this Wednesday 18th November at 7pm.
