Having dominated the first half we led by six points at the interval but we allowed our opponents to get on top in the second half with admittedly the loss of midfielder Stephen Walsh to injury not helping us. We now have it all to do to retain our senior status.

We opened the scoring inside the first minute with a point from Colm Morris but Ardmore equalised immediately. Donal Barron put us ahead in the fifth minute. We were on top at this stage but failed to make it count where it matters and Ardmore levelled it in the 13th minute. When David Dennison slipped taking the resultant kickout we were fortunate that he recovered to deflect the shot over the bar to put Ardmore ahead 0-3 to 0-2. They doubled their lead from a free in the 16th minute. We were back in front in the 19th minute when Lee Hayes got on the end of a high delivery from Ian Cantwell to fist it past the advancing keeper. We played excellent football for the final ten minutes of the half and scored five unanswered points from Colm Morris (2), David Kennedy, Ian Cantwell and Conan Watt to lead 1-7 to 0-4 at the break.

The game was really lost by us in the first ten minutes of the second half when Ardmore goaled in the third minute and followed with two points to make it 1-7 to 1-6. In the 15th minute they had another goal chance but David Dennison made a fine save. In the 18th minute Ardmore equalised after we failed to convert a free and they counter attacked. They added two further points before Conan Watt opened our second half account in the 26th minute. They again stretched their lead to two points before Colm Morris reduced it to the minimum again. However we could not find an equaliser in the added on time.

Scorers: Colm Morris 0-4 (0-1 free), Lee Hayes 1-0, Conan Watt 0-2, Donal Barron, David Kennedy and Ian Cantwell 0-1 each.

Panel: David Dennison, Martin Sheehan, Thomas Kearney, Christopher Sheehan, David Kennedy, Colm Clancy (captain), Stephen Dalton, Stephen Walsh, Oran Keevers, Colm Morris, David Greene, Donal Barron, Conan Watt, Lee Hayes, Ian Cantwell, Paddy Kennedy, Craig Dowling, Patrick Flynn, Eamonn Dalton, Kenneth Byrne, James Grogan, James Coad, Eddie Barrett, Jake Dillon.

East Junior Football Championship

De La Salle 1-8 Bonmahon 0-4
Our junior footballers got their second win when we beat Bonmahon in Bonmahon last Saturday. This was a hard fought victory with the fact that it was our third game and Bonmahon’s first probably giving us an advantage. We had plenty of early possession but couldn’t seem to handle Bonmahon’s sweeper system and it took us twelve minutes before Joey Twomey opened our account. Further points followed from Stephen Jacob in the 16th minute and Joey Twomey in the 22nd. We were fortunate not to be level when a Bonmahon goal attempt came back off the crossbar and it was 0-3 to 0-0 at the interval.

Two minutes into the second half came the point of the game when Eoin Casey waltzed past four defenders to send the ball over the bar. Bonmahon opened their account in the fourth minute but they were rocked a minute later when after good work by Joey Twomey and Eamonn Fitzgerald, Darren Casey picked out the inrushing Stephen Jacob and he buried the ball in the far corner of the net. Bonmahon replied with a point but two points from Joey Twomey made it 1-7 to 0-2 midway through the half. Bonmahon pointed twice either side of an excellent save by their keeper from Eamonn Fitzgerald. Bonmahon were unable to trouble our rock solid defence for the goal they needed and Joey Twomey ended the scoring with another point two minutes from time.

Scorers: Joey Twomey 0-6 (0-3 frees), Stephen Jacob 1-1, Eoin Casey 0-1.

Panel: Eamonn Dalton, Keith Deasy, David Whittle, Conor Hogan, Peter O’Hagan, Alan Fitzgerald, Diarmuid Carey, James Grogan, Stephen Jacob, Joey Twomey, Eamonn Fitzgerald, Eoin Casey, Darren Casey, Barry Twomey, David Hogan, Adam Doyle, John Cummins, David Sutton, Ryan Duke, Adam O’Sullivan.

County U-16 football championship

De La Salle 5-15 Dungarvan 2-2
Our penultimate game in this year’s county U-16 football championship ended with a very good win over what must be said was a weakened Dungarvan side who were missing a few of their players due to the holiday season. The game was probably our best performance all season in what was a great night for football played on a superb pitch in Dungarvan. With all our points coming from play with the exception of one free kick out of a final score line of 5-15 it was a fantastic return from what was a super team effort with eight players getting on the score sheet. It was also encouraging to again give our full panel game time. Unfortunately the only down side was the loss of Dylan Finn mid way through the first half with a hand injury and with Dylan having a very good season so far we wish him a speedy recovery.

Thank you to the large number of parents that travelled on the night supporting the team as well as Joanne Carey on first aid, Ger Treacy for donning thewhite coat and Willie Power for helping on the line.

We have now qualified for the semi final of the county and our final league game in the championship is against Naomh Bríd on Monday 20th April in Gracedieu at 6.30pm so be sure to book the date in your diary and come along to support these great bunch of lads.

Panel: Donal Carey, Seán O’Keeffe, Seán Carton, Ciarán Corrigan (captain), Alex Kennedy, Conor Giles Doran, Seán Connolly, Eoghan Rea, Luke Flynn, Chris Kong, Dylan Finn, Peter Grogan, Lorcan Dwyer, Seán Power, Kevin Hennessy, Eoghan McGrath Butler, Eoin Treacy, Liam Coad, Joshua Campus, Dan Casey, Luke Stacey, Stephen Power.

Munster Minor Hurling Championship

Hard luck to Eddie Meaney, Michael Roche, Lee Wall, selector Ray Murphy and the Waterford minor hurlers who went down by the narrowest of margins to Tipperary in Thurles last Wednesday.

National Hurling League Semi Final

Best wishes to Derek McGrath, Mark Cooney, Kevin Moran, Jake Dillon, Shane McNulty, Eddie Barrett, Stephen Daniels and the Waterford senior hurlers who take on Tipperary next Sunday in Nowlan Park.

Lotto

There was no winner of our Lotto jackpot and it now stands at €5,250.
