With the championship on next weekend it was good to get a win after some narrow defeats recently.
Playing against the wind we opened the scoring with two points from Ian Cantwell and Colm Morris but it was all square after seven minutes. The same two players pointed again to put us 0-4 to 0-2 up after twelve minutes. Gaultier reduced the arrears but further points from Conan Watt, Ian Cantwell andColm Morris had us ahead 0-7 to 0-3 at half time.
We opened the second half scoring with an Ian Cantwell free and in the sixth minute Ian Cantwell took a pass from David Greene just inside the Gaultier half and raced through to finish low to the net for an excellent goal. Gaultier replied with a point but points from Colm Morris (2) and Ian Cantwell had us ahead 1-11 to 0-4 after sixteen minutes. Barry Twomey opened the scoring in the eleventh minute and two goals in four minutes followed from the outstanding Joey Twomey and the returning Shane Quinlan. An exchange of points involving Patrick Fitzgerald followed before Kilmacthomas goaled to make it 2-2 to 1-1 after twenty three minutes. We goaled again when Joey Twomey hit the crossbar and Shane Quinlan was on hand to finish the rebound. Points followed from Patrick Fitzgerald (2), Joey Twomey and James Grogan to to put us ahead 3-6 to 1-1 at the interval.

We began the second half with two points from Joey Twomey before Kilmacthomas fought back with four consecutive points to make it 3-8 to 1-5 after eight minutes. However, any thoughts of a comeback ended four minutes later when Shane Quinlan completed his hat trick. Further points followed from Joey Twomey, Patrick Fitzgerald and Peter O’Hagan to one from Kilmacthomas to make it 4-11 to 1-6 with nine minutes left. A minute later David Hogan, not to be undone by his twin brother, got on the end of a move to round the keeper and finish to the net. Kilmacthomas replied immediately with a goal to make it 5-11 to 2-6 with five minutes left. Goals from Joey Twomey and Craig Connolly followed by points from Stephen Jacob and Patrick Flynn sealed the victory.
Scorers: Joey Twomey 2-4 (0-1 ’45), Shane Quinlan 3-0, Patrick Fitzgerald 0-4 (0-2 frees), David Hogan and Craig Connolly 1-0 each, Barry Twomey,James Grogan, Peter O’Hagan, Stephen Jacob and Patrick Flynn 0-1 each.

Panel: Eamonn Dalton, Keith Deasy, David Whittle, Conor Hogan, Peter O’Hagan, Alan Fitzgerald, James Grogan, Stephen Jacob, Patrick Flynn, Joey Twomey, Patrick Fitzgerald, Eoin Casey, Darren Casey, Barry Twomey, Shane Quinlan, David Hogan, Ryan Duke, Ben O’Dwyer, Craig Connolly, John Cummins.

National Football League

Hard luck to Oran Keevers and the Waterford senior footballers who ended a disappointing campaign with defeat in Leitrim last Saturday.
Munster Minor Hurling Championship
We wish the best of luck to Eddie Meaney, Michael Roche, Lee Wall, selector Ray Murphy and the Waterford minor hurlers who play Tipperary in Thurles next Wednesday.

Condolences

The death occurred at the weekend of Donal McBride after an illness.
