Peil na nOg 2016
Congratulations to our U-14 footballers who travelled to the kingdom and did their manager Paudie Brosnan proud in his home county by winning the Division 10 shield competition. They were hosted by Waterville/Dromid Pearses and on Friday our first game was against St. Patricks (Wicklow) who now boost among their members our former senior hurler James Quirke. Victory went to the Wicklow men 1-8 to 2-1. This would be the only non Kerry opposition we would meet over the weekend. We also lost our second game to Renard where having been well behind at half time a second half comeback nearly won the game but it finished 2-9 to 3-4. It was then on to play our hosts on Saturday morning and we were victorious on a score of 6-5 to 1-2. This put us in the quarter final of the shield where we defeated St. Michaels Foilmore by 8-3 to 1-5. We then discovered we were going to meet our hosts again in the semi final. They had two players back from holidays but we still emerged on top by 2-6 to 0-1. It was then on to Killarney Legion pitch to play Ballydonoghue in the final where we won convincingly 5-6 to 0-3. Well done to team manager Paudie Brosnan who was assisted over the weekend by Christy O’Halloran, Tommy Ryan, Pat Twomey, Donal Treacy and Kevin O’Shea with U-16 players Seaghan Walsh and Dylan Finn who played on Paudie’s winning team of two years ago also involved.
The mentors, players and supporters would like to extend our thanks to Waterville/Dromid Pearses clubs for their hospitality over the weekend

East Intermediate Football Championship
De La Salle 2-9 Tramore 0-8
Our intermediate footballers began their campaign with a hard fought win over Tramore in Walsh Park last Saturday. Goals in each half by the excellent Colm Morris proved the difference on the night. Missing several players who had played senior the last two years it was good to get off to a wining start. On a positive note we gave debuts to U-21 player Dylan Foley and minors Ciaran Brady and Ryan Duke who all acquitted themselves well.
Playing against the wind we started sluggishly and after twelve minutes we were 0-3 to 0-0 in arrears. We got our first score in the 19th minute when a move began at the back by Christopher Sheehan and continued on by Stephen Dalton, Stephen Walsh, John Mullane and Paddy Kennedy saw Colm Morris finish to the net to level matters. Tramore regained the lead a minute later but points by David Kennedy and Colm Morris had us ahead by the 25th minute. Tramore equalised again, but good work by Dylan Foley saw Paddy Kennedy restore our lead only for Tramore to convert a free in injury time to leave it all square 1-3 to 0-6 at the break.
We started the second half with a pointed free from Colm Morris after Stephen Dalton was fouled in the third minute but Tramore were level again a minute later. Colm Morris pointed another free in the eight minute after he was fouled himself. In the tenth minute Donal Barron, Stephen Walsh and Stephen Dalton created a chance for David Kennedy who was unlucky to see his shot strike the butt of the upright but he recovered to shoot over the bar. Tramore got what proved to be their final score in the 13th minute with a pointed free and they then missed three frees in a row before another foul on Colm Morris resulted in Paddy Kennedy pointing in the 21st minute. We went three clear a minute later with an excellent point from John Mullane after good work by Colm Clancy. David Kennedy put four between us in the 23rd minute and the game was wrapped up in the 28th minute when Stephen Walsh was grounded as he shot for a goal and Colm Morris expertly converted the penalty.
Scorers: Colm Morris 2-3 (1-0 penalty, 0-2 frees), David Kennedy 0-3, Paddy Kennedy 0-2 (0-1 free), John Mullane 0-1.

East Junior Football Championship
De La Salle 4-6 Naomh Pól 3-4
Our junior footballers maintained their unbeaten run with a hard fought win over Naomh Pól in Gracedieu last Friday. Our opponents had the better of the exchanges for most of the first half but failed to take their chances. We got on top in the second half and three goals secured our third victory.
Naomh Pól opened the scoring with a goal in the seventh minute. Two points from Martin Sheehan in the 11th and 13th minutes narrowed the gap. Naomh Pól pointed in the 14th minute but we took the lead in the 20th minute when Stephen Jacob and Eoin Casey combined for Evan Whelan to goal. However, Naomh Pól goaled within a minute and added a point to lead at the interval 2-2 to 1-2.
We began the second half strongly and Eamonn Fitzgerald pointed in the third minute. Three minutes later Barry Twomey crashed the ball to the net and when Eamonn Fitzgerald won the kick out, he gave it to Martin Sheehan who finished to the top corner of the net to put us ahead 3-3 to 2-2. Eamonn Fitzgerald pointed in the 10th minute and Naomh Pól replied likewise in the 17th minute. Our fourth goal arrived in the 22nd minute when after a move involving Peter O’Hagan and Stephen Jacob, James Grogan goaled. James added a point from a free and Naomh Pól pointed also, Martin Sheehan got our last score in the 26th minute when he pointed and Naomh Pól ended the scoring in the final minute with their third goal.
Scorers: Martin Sheehan 1-3, James Grogan 1-1, Evan Whelan and Barry Twomey 1-0 each, Eamonn Fitzgerald 0-2.
