The official opening of our Gracedieu facilities took place last Saturday with a large crowd of players, ex players, members, supporters and their families present. Guests in attendance included former President of the GAA Sean Kelly MEP who performed the opening ceremony, Jerry O’Sullivan the chairman of the Munster council, Paddy Joe Ryan chairman of the county board, Michael Wadding chairman of the eastern board and Sean Reinhardt Mayor of the Metropolitan District. Br. Stephen, Br. Damian, Br. Killian, Br. Frank and Br. Tom represented the De La Salle order with Br. Stephen performing the opening of the Br. Anselm room. Also in attendance was county manager Michael Walsh along with past and present councillors who all helped to bring the project to fruition. In his speech chairman Seamus Quirke outlined how the project developed from the start to the present day. We extend our thanks to everyone who attended on the day and to Eamonn Fitzgerald and his committee including MC Ricky Grogan for their organizational efforts. Finally a word for the original committee of Joey Carton, Tom O’Leary, Dermot Carey and Liam Flynn who drove the project.

East Intermediate Hurling Championship
De La Salle 2-20 Ferrybank 1-15
Our intermediate hurlers qualified for the quarter final of the championship when they defeated Ferrybank in Carrickbeg last Friday. This was the best performance of the campaign by our young team who trailed by a point at the break having faced the wind and went on to play excellently in the second half with our opponents defence unable to cope with the twin threat of Thomas Douglas and Cormac McCann.
We opened with a Brian Cunningham point inside the first minute but Ferrybank replied with three points inside the first five minutes. An exchange of points involving Brian Cunningham followed before frees from Bryan Phelan and Brian Cunningham levelled matters by the 13th minute. Further points from Brian Cunningham, Thomas Douglas and Cormac McCann were cancelled out by Ferrybank to leave it 0-7 each after twenty four minutes. Ferrybank added two points before Brian Cunningham ended the first half scoring as both sides were reduced to fourteen men to leave us trailing 0-9 to 0-8. Ferrybank began the second half well pointing either side o fa Thomas Douglas point by the fourth minute. We took control of the game then and three excellent points in a row from Thomas Douglas, two from Michael Roche and one from Cormac McCann had us ahead 0-15 to 0-11 midway through the half. Ferrybank replied with three points in three minutes but we goaled in the 19th minute when Thomas Kearney and Cormac McCann set up Thomas Douglas who crashed the ball low to the net. Mikey Costigan added a point from distance and Cormac McCann got our second goal when he was on hand to finish to the net after Brian Cunningham’s shot was saved to make it 2-16 to 0-14 after twenty one minutes. Brian Cunningham added two frees before a gosl I nte 30t hminute for Ferrybank reduced the rrears. Mikey Costigan pointed a free and Oran Keevers added an excellent score before a Ferrybank free was deflected over the bar for the final score.

County Minor Hurling Championship
De La Salle 6-18 Abbeyside 3-10
Our minor hurlers made it two wins out of three when they had a good win over Abbeyside in Gracedieu last Tuesday. This was a most competitive first half with two goals from Thomas Douglas and one from Dylan Finn saw us lead 3-8 to 2-6 at half time. We took control in the second half and another three goals from the outstanding Thomas Douglas saw us comfortably home.

Our U-14 Hurlers continued their progress in the U= 14 league section of their championship with a well merited win over St. Pats at Gracedieu on Monday last. This was a very good game of hurling played on a wet evening by two very committed sides. We lead 2-3 to 1-4 at halftime after a very competitive half. The second half produced some excellent hurling by both sides before we ran out eventual winners on a score of 4-6 to 2-7.
We played the fourth round of the U-16 Hurling championship on Wednesday last against Abbeyside at their ground. The players put in a very determined display but unfortunately we suffered our fourth straight defeat at this grade. Abbeyside made a very quick start and scored a number of points before our lads managed to score. This was a start that our lads were never able to recover from and Abbeyside ran out eventual winners on a score of 3-14 to 1-7.Credit to the players who battled to the very end.
All groups will be returning to training this week after the summer break and will be contacted by their coaches in the usual way.
Tour De Salle 2017 in association with John Kelly Opel is taking place on Sunday August 27th.
Registration will take place on the day in John Kelly Opel from 9am. Entry into the cycle is €10.
Refreshments will be provided before, during and after the cycle.
Cycle begins in John Kelly Opel at 9.30 and will finish in DLS Gracedieu. We recommend to park your car in Gracedieu and take the short spin to John Kelly Opel.
