Team Reports

2013 Under 11 Hurling Season

2013 was a mixed year for our under 11 hurlers. Early in the year we did well in a couple of challenge games, in Carriganore against Ballygunner and in Grace Dieu against Piltown. In the early part of the city league we were unlucky and were just shaded out by both Roanmore and Glenmore. But things swung against us for the later games and we were well beaten on a few occasions. We did finish our city league campaign with a good win against our fellow strugglers, Mooncoin. One of the last matches of the year was a 15-a-side challenge against Tramore in Cleaboy. Tramore had been one of the teams who had been too strong for us in the city league but a full strength De La Salle team got a great win to end the year on a high note. Changes to the city league (which we supported) to allow in clubs from the west mean that even our win against Mooncoin didn't save us from being relegated to Division 2. We are hoping for a strong city league campaign in 2014 and to put ourselves in a position to have another go at the Division 1 teams in the September league that has been promised by the Waterford City league committee.

2013 Under 12 Hurling Season

The U12 hurlers continued to make progress in 2013. They were beaten in only one of their City league matches and finished 2nd in Division 2. The team also participated in the annual Clonea tournament in July and the matches against stronger teams from other counties were a valuable experience. The year ended with some friendly matches in November including our guests from Malahide and all these matches were won. The significant work in 2013 will provide the basis for the coming year. During the year one of our coaches, Liam Flynn, emigrated to Canada and the panel and the other coaches wish Liam continuing success abroad.

Last year's u15 team followed on from their 2012 success by winning another eastern title. Mt.Sion provided the opposition in the final where the lads secured their third eastern title in a row. During the year we also took part in the Munster Supertouch competition where we finished runners up. In September we travelled to Na Piarsaigh of Cork and became the first team to take the trophy out of the its home club. Overall another great year for this squad and we look forward to 2014.

2013 Under 16 Hurling Season

The U16 hurlers put in alot of work between January and May and reached the County Quarter finals and were on course to beat Cappoquin until a series of late goals for Cappoquin resulted in a 1 point win for Cappoquin. This team went on to win the county title. In the Eastern championship we lost by 2 points to Ballygunner in an exciting game.

2013 Under 16 Football Season

The U16 football season was a disappointing one. It started in early August and it immediately proved difficult to get a full team . A narrow defeat against Dungarvan was followed by a walkover against Cois Brid and then heavy defeats against St Saviours and Gaultier before we failed to field against Tramore due to a pre-arranged U15 hurling tournament in Cork. In the end it was decided to pull the team from the competition , incidently a decision also taken by the other team to compete in the county minor hurling final , Dungarvan.
